True, but you can only get there in stages.

Steven, what's the highest number of women we've had in the top 200 in recent memory? I'm hoping for 7 by the end of this year...

EDIT: sorry, it's on your stats page isn't it - just so happens to be 7 in 1991! Come on girls, 18 years is a long time...

Yes, 7 is the highest at a year-end in the last 20 years. 7 now would effectively be an improvement on 7 back then because so many more countries have strong players these days.

(7)Alberta Brianti (ITA) v Michaella Krajicek (NED)

(4)Stefanie Voegele (SUI) v Meng Yuan (CHN)
Georgie Stoop (GBR) v Shenay Perry (USA)

(8)Julie Ditty (USA) v Q

(6)Alexa Glatch (USA) v (wc)Anna Smith (GBR)

British involvement well distributed, with decent draws for the direct entries, and Naomi could well upset Camerin.

Was thinking the same about Naomi...though Camerin has pushed Anne hard, so would be a great win. Bit unlucky for Joss on her first match back, probably the hardest quarter. I'd expect a drubbing for Anna from Glatch, given her double breadsticks against Pennetta at RG - looks like a rising star. I'm not to confident of a Katie-Bally QF either, I have to say; Mel definitely looks like our best hope here for me.

Wow! According to someone on GBTG, all three qualified apparently - Tara in straights 61/75 and Jade with a bagel in the third, 64/46/60! Wasn't expecting such a great set of results, brilliant news :) LTA site seems to be going backwards, having lost the news from earlier today, so awaiting Naomi's result...

Naomi won impressively 6-0 6-4

Qualifiers placed:

Rika Fujiwara (JPN) v Jade Curtis
(8)Julie Ditty (USA) v Tara Moore
(5)Katie OŽBrien (GBR) v Svenja Weidemann (GER)
Angela Haynes (USA) v Naomi Cavaday

The best possible, with Katie avoiding the three Brits

Couple of great wins there...good to see both Tara and Jade continue momentum. And I guess that moves Tara into top 500

Still no luck for Amanda Elliott. She drew Jade Curtis on her eastern tour, Tara Moore in Jersey and now she draws Mel.

Great stuff from the girls in qualifying. I hope the MD can live up to that and we might be in for a great tournament.

Good draws for the qualies girls, really - I'd bet on one or two of them sneaking a win. Ever so slightly worried about Katie though...
