Hard luck for Jade, though she exceeded my four-game benchmark! Given that Wickmayer reached the final at Birmingham last year, beating Mel easily on the way, there's no shame in that result. And great stuff from Mel, pretty impressive...

I wouldn't be surprised if Mel won the tournament. The break that she took to upgrade her fitness has given her a lot of confidence. Top 100 here we come.
