[...] Hope Jade gets to test herself against Wickmayer - that should be a good indicator of how far she's come; Georgie took her to 3 in Feb, so could be closer than we'd imagine.
She will: Wickmayer beat Nakamura 7-5 4-6 6-2 today!
And now has a good chance on paper of progressing to the QFs: doesn't look as though this has already been reported, so I'll flag up the fact that the Russian second seed, Alla Kudryavtseva (WR 75), was beaten 6-2 2-6 3-6 today by the South African with the silly first name, Chanelle Scheepers (WR 149 compared with Bally's 126). Mind you, that may make her dangerous... not...
South Africa's best junior is also called Chanelle. Must be quite a common name down there.

Doesn't stop it being silly! Strikes me the Springboks are as bad as the Yanks & the Aussies on that front! *rolls eyes*
Jade Curtis & Anna Smith lost 7-6(5) 6-7(3) [1-10] to Klemenschits & Krauth
Madison (another silly first name *rolls eyes*) Brengle & Georgie Stoop lost 3 & 3 to Glatch & Grandin
Naomi Broady & Liz Thomas lost 6-4 2-6 [10-12] to the second seeds, Ditty & Gullickson
At least Jade & Anna & Naomi & Liz appear to have put up a fight!
* Just realised: those results mean that Sarah Borwell, the fourth seed with Angela Haynes, is the only Brit left in that particular competition!

Gutted the girls all lost their doubles today. Anna and Jade were playing beautifully together in the first and most of the second set, really playing some fantastic doubles. They were 7-6(5), 5-3 up and really looked likely to take it, then things went horribly wrong. Anna was broken to love and then they totally fell apart, which is obvious from the match tie-break score.
Kind of expected Georgie and Madison to lose today, having watched them only just squeeze into the main draw in their qualifying match, in which they didn't look very good. From what i've seen I really don't rate Brengle as a good doubles player and she will definitely have to improve if her doubles ranking is to get much better. Can't see Georgie choosing to play with her again but I could be wrong.
Only caught the last half of the match tie break from Liz and Naomi and again like Anna and Jade, they were playing some very clever and positive doubles. I'm pretty sure they lost it 11-9 not 12-10, but they did have an 8-6 lead and then had match point at 9-8 , but overall I was very impressed with how patient they were under pressure without being too defensive, Ditty and Gullickson fought hard in the last point which could have gone either way.
Unfortunate results, but many positives to take from Anna/Jade who were definitely playing way better than their ranking would suggest and also from Liz/Naomi.
Can't believe the amount of marathan matches today it was utterly ridiculous. Dan Evans was going spare waiting for his match to come on centre court.
Match of the day was Cavaday v Haynes went on for about three hours. Naomi came out firing hitting a number of winners to go into a *3-0 lead. Went to check on Georgie and when I came back it was 5-5, Haynes resorting to getting everything back and hoping Cav would miss. Closed out a tense TB despite missing one sp when the wind suddenly picked causing her to miss with a fh. At 3-6 in the second set TB Haynes just went for it and hit a few winners and at 5-6 Naomi hit a great second serve but the return was right back at her feet and Haynes was aided by a horrific call by the line judge at 6-6. I thought there was no chance for Cav after that but credit, the work she has clearly being doing on her fitness paid off, she stayed in it holding serve, broke and recovered and closed it out on her fifth match point. Her groundies were good today but to be critical I thought her serve was too easliy read.
Georgie dominated her match except for the start and the finish. Went 5-1 down first set and won 13 of the next 19 games to lead 4-6, 6-3, 4-1 and then just started to play horribly and lost 6-4 in the 3rd. Way to flakey for my liking. Her opponent Perry liked to mix it up and serve and volleyed and regular occasions.
Camerin v Broady went on for ages too lots of long rallies. I felt Naomi didn't use her physical advantage and played into the hands of the Italian who liked a long rally. I can see so much more potential there if she is willing to use it.
O'Brien somehow won in straight sets, went 5-1 up and had the usual Katie brain-fart and was very nearly broken for 5-5. Second set looked much more secure, saved 2 sp at 5-6 and won the TB in emphatic style. Weidemann has a two handed forehand and a one handed backhand, absolutely brilliant. Can see why she got through qualies she kept her length very deep.
Baltacha played her usual brand of attacking grass court tennis from the little I saw.
Didn't see much of the doubles but Broady and Thomas should have knocked out the 2nd seeds, Liz very nearly pulled them through in the MTB but not to be.
I have uploaded a video of some of Elliott vs South to youtube and am hoping to upload some more of other matches if I get back earlier today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvKmi5ILEAM
Thanks very much for the vid and summaries! Mels match looked tighter than I expected! Glad that Naomi has clear areas to improve on, it means a ranking climb looks likely :D
I'm torn - would love Katie to get somewhere near top 100 here, but Naomi seems the better long-term prospect and Katie's already surpassed her points from this week last year... Thanks for the video! Have to say I don't much like Mel's attitude on court - she always looks really stroppy and sulky when she misses a shot; maybe that's how she gets fired up though.
