Er, Cakj, that was only one player, up against a higher-ranked opponent who recently won a 75k. Yes she should've taken it, but we can't expect our players to win all the time just because they're British! So I think you're jumping the gun a little... Congrats to Naomi on another great win; if she keeps this up, getting back into the top 200 by the end of the grass season is not an impossibility - Haynes is the kind of person she'll be facing in Wimbledon qualies, and if she can make it through there are sneak a first round win she'd probaby have enough points straight away. More realistically, another win here and a couple at Birmingham and Eastbourne, plus Wimbledon qualies would surely take her pretty close going into the hardcourt season. Just keep it up, Naomi!
Exactly the sort of comments one expects to receive back on here. I have probably followed Gb tennis longer than you have been born. i tell it as it is, not like some of the comments on here ( let her have a wild card cos i think shes hot). Some of you need to get out more.
Its just like alot of people on here i just get so frustrated for them more than anything because i do think if they get in winning positions then they have the ability. Alot of the time they just cannot finish the matches off. so many of our players should be ranked higher than they are but because of these sort of matches they are not. When they ars given the oppertunity in these summer tounaments in GB they really need to take full advantage to get their ranking up so they are one step nearer to getting out of the hard slog of 10k and 25ks tourns around the world. Curtis and Rae brilliant yesterday, so pleased 4 Naomi C. Letshope there is alot more like this in coming weeks ahead.
Cakj, I agree with you, but it would be utterly bizzare if every British player always closed out a winnable match - on a balance of probabilities, it's just not going to happen! That's how matches go sometimes, and to expect British girls always to be on the winning end is ludicrous - remember that people in America would've said exactly the same about Perry if Georgie had won. Stuff happens...I don't really think it's about a 'British malaise', just that some of our girls are over-ranked, and sometimes things just don't work out! We should have high expectations, but tempered by the fact that the odds are that sometimes things will fail.
