To make it easier for Steven when he does the nightly round-up, Josh lost that first-set TB 4-7.  Nice to see him back on the winning trail.  thumbsup.gif  ERV (no idea of present ranking) in the next round is surely better than having to face Muller (WR 79), methinks! wink  That said, I seem to remember that ERV is actually pretty handy on grass, so pray.gif ...

thanks for the scores all those who provided them over the day.

Could I make one request for the rest of the week:

Could all posts with a score state who is playing, eg

"Boggo *5-0"

instead of

"5-0".

This is especially important for when there is more than one match taking place at that time, it's just incredibly difficult to work out which score pertains to which match otherwise, when reading it hours later (which is the whole point of posting full scores, so people who miss the match can get more than just the result).

Thank you all smile.gif

Maybe so, but what supporters of players of other nationalities who come on here looking for results are going to have to bear in mind is that members of this board who go to the events covered by a particular thread & text back scores/results to be posted thereon are interested primarily in the outcome of matches involving at least one Brit, so they can hardly expect those contested by two non-Brits to be a priority! wink

Seconded. Been trying to follow this at work but not been able to because some people have been a bit too hasty with the score updates. (Unfortunately bet365 is blocked).

All I know is that some people have lost, maybe Muller, maybe Evans, maybe both?? Who knows. It may appear Evans won a set, but again who knows?

Great wins for Eaton and Josh in final set tie breaks which is refreshing to see from the British players, especially Eaton's win which should give him plenty of confidence ahead of the rest of the grass court season, and with Muller crashing out, it should give Josh a chance to reach the last eight here.

Shame for Dan to lose though, especially after having played a good second set, but Amritraj is a very experienced grass courter so perhaps it's not too surprising that he lost. That said, it's the kind of match that we'd be hoping he could win.

L32 Q1: (Q) Josh Goodall WR 217 beat Scoville Jenkins (USA) WR 209 by 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(3) biggrin
L32 Q1: (WC) Dan Evans WR 316 lost to Prakash Amritraj (IND) WR 161 by 6-2 3-6 6-2 cry

L32 Q2: Alex Bogdanovic WR 196 v Qualifier (winner to play (3) Dancevic or G Lapentti) - 3rd on C2
L32 Q2: (WC) Dan Cox WR 632 v Sebastien Grosjean (FRA) WR 483 (winner to play (5) Bozoljac or Gregorc) - 3rd on centre

L32 Q3: (WC) Colin Fleming WR 497 v Brendan Evans (USA) WR 159 (winner to play (6) Devvarman or Q) - 1st on centre @ 11
L32 Q3: (WC) Chris Eaton WR 342 beat Kevin Anderson (USA) WR 146 by 6-4 4-6 7-6(4) biggrin

L16 Q1: (Q) Josh Goodall WR 217 v Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) WR 163
L16 Q3: (WC) Chris Eaton WR 342 v (4) Adrian Mannarino (FRA) WR 126

Excellent 3rd set t/b wins for Josh and Chris, how very un-British of them wink and here is a quick look at who they will play on Thuirsday:

No. 1 seed Gilles Muller may be out, but his conqueror ERV is a former world no. 82 (2007) is on our serial Brit-bashers list with a career record against Brits of 8-0, his most prominent scalps being Boggo (albeit way back in 2002) and Jamie B in straight sets in R1 at Wimby 2 years ago. Perhaps slightly more encouraging is that he has gone 8 tournaments (7 Challengers + RG Q) without winning back to back matches, so one of those streaks of 8 has to go on Thursday.

Mannarino is 8-2 v Brits, having lost to Bloomers and Aucks.

Top effort from Josh he won from a set and *4-3 down, very long game in the 8th of the second set before Josh finally broke through and then broke again to take the set. Final set went with serve all the way through to the TB, not for want of trying though. Josh missed 3 match points at 4-5 after brave play by Jenkins. There was really absolutely nothing it for the duration of the match, both players having big but solid and unspectacular games relying on their serves to set up the point. Finished with a double fault from Jenkins, a bad end to a terrific, hard fought, match.

Watched the above match more than the Eaton match but from what I did see Chris was very, very, very good at the net. As I am sure you know both players have massive serves but Chris had slightly the better movement which shone through at 4-5 in the breaker when a long rally ended with Anderson not getting to a big Eaton fh quick enough and netting which was the defining moment.

Saw none of the Evans-Amritraj match, sorry.

Tough loss for H&H in the doubles, Hutch must be sick of the sight of Bubka. Kudryavtsev & Bubka just pelted everyting from the back of the court. H&H were winning the MTB until Huss had a hissy fit over I have no idea what at *8-7. Bubka hit a return winner down the line and then Huss told Kudryavtsev very clearly, and for no reason that was apparent to me, he was a t***. When the Russian said he didn't speak English very well, he went up to him and repeated it right in front of his face, amazingly not getting a warning from the umpire. Huss then proceeded to double fault and then miss a return and then depsite Ross pulling out a good return he netted a volley on match point and it was all over.

Jim Thomas played amazingly well in his match with Bopanna against Boggo & Cox for someone who has been out for 7 months. Cox said he had hit 15 lines. Lipsky & Booty were a class above Eaton & Slabba and Coetzee must have played well in his match because he earnt a bow from Brendan Evans at the end.

I really don't know why people are thinking that Evo should have beaten Kash. Kash is one of the better grass court (I mean grass court, not green clay of Wimbledon and Queen's) players in the world, and was in great form (beat Sela) just before picking up an ankle injury which continued to hamper him for a few tournaments.

I'm more or less impressed by the scoreline from Evo.

I hope Cox will somehow find a way to ensure that Grosjean can return home to watch Gonzalez vs. Soderling. Won't be easy but this'll be nice experience for him anyway.
