Tournament Key : M-FU-ITA-12A-2009 Dates : 25 May to 31 May 2009 Venue : Cesena, Italy Surface : Clay
No one in the QD but Morgan gets in as a DA using his PR...which he didnt have to do as he would have got an SE due to his run this week. I suppose he doesnt have a crystal ball !
R1: (PR) Morgan Phillips WR 1260 v Thomas Oger (MON) WR 437
Not a good draw. Oger has been in decent form of late (reaching at least semis in 3 of last 5 events) and then the 2nd seed would probably await in R2.

Be that as it may, he won by 3 & 5!
R2: (PR) Morgan Phillips WR 1260 vs (2) Guillermo Alcaide (ESP) WR 282
That's a really excellent win against a player who was in the top 250 as recently as two years ago
In fact, Oger has been quite Brit-bashed recently, losing to Brits 4 times in the last 12 months - he got mashed 2 & 0 by Bloomers in Wimby Q, beat Dr No but then lost to Tim Hewitt at the Cumberland Club and of course Dan Cox beat him in Turkey last month, though Oger won Turkey F6 the following week, his last tournament before losing to Morgan here.
Alcaide won the Edinburgh Future on green clay earlier this month but is on a 4-match losing streak against Brits:
L to Skupski in Glasgow in Jan 2009 (IH) L to Wardy in the Rodez Final in 2008 (IH) ret. v Bains at the Cumberland Club in 2007 (IH) L to Searle at Frindon (grass) in 2007

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
I presume the inclement weather which disrupted play in Paris the day before yesterday had made its way as far south as Italy yesterday: only one match appears to have been completed in Cesena (Migani (5) beat Grassi 6-4 5-7 6-1), while another was left unfinished (Vanni (7)/Eitzinger 6-4 4-4).
* I'm intrigued by the fact that Oger, Morgan's first-round opponent, though born in France, has now switched his allegiance to Monaco...
