Horrible draw for Anne, but I suppose after all the good draws she seems to have had this season, she was due something like this. But she can go out and play with no pressure, which might suit her more, and you never know what could happen.
Nice draw for Mel, but it all depends on which qualifier she gets of course - there's a decent chance of her making round two here though.
Well at least she's had this good run on clay, so the points are no big deal - and she'll go in with a lot of confidence. I daresay she's a darn sight fitter than Safina too, so you never know! Fingers crossed Mel doesn't get Shvedova...
Shes still pretty slow, though, Dinara that is. And countless times these past few weeks in early rounds players have had chances to put her away but have squandered them, I pray that Anne can be the one to put her away. Then a WS would be number one!! :p

Anne has a positive and realistic outlook on her draw, as she tells her website:
"I am looking forward to playing Safina, even though its probably the toughest draw you could ask for. Shes definitely the favourite for the title and shes a player whos done consistently the best this year, especially winning Rome and Madrid.
Its definitely a tough draw but Ive got nothing to lose. I can go out there and take a bit of confidence from my performances this week and give it my best shot. Itll be on one of the big courts and its my first appearance in the main draw at the French Open so I can just go out there and enjoy it.
I dont have too many expectations of myself but I will definitely learn a lot and enjoy it. Its not every week that you get to play the No.1 player in the world."
Most players love to have opportunities like this. She has no pressure of defending points. I just hope that she recovers sufficiently from the excellent week in Warsaw to do herself justice. Dinara won their Wimbledon junior semi pretty easily.
Mel deserves her good fortune, after drawing seeds previously in Grand Slams. However, she has never won a clay court match above 10K I think, so will be a clear underdog.

Mel's got Larcher de Brito, neither of the Brits got the first LL place, though there's a 2 in 3 chance one of them will get the next one, if there is one.
Not great at all really, is it.
