Johanna Konta

Just realised that Jo is now 111 in the live rankings, so will presumably have to play AO quals (if she wants to be involved), the first time she'd have to enter slam quals for more than 6 years. She last played a match in mid August, so any potential PR wouldn't kick in until late Feb / March if she chose to go that route.

Yes, Jo is due to drop 245 points on 08/11 in line with a WTA statement in September regarding outstanding 2019 WTA tournament points. 65 from Indian Wells and 180 from Rabat.

Jo is 83 in the race. Does this imply she will regain some places when it all gets sorted out?

Jo's 83 in the Porsche singles rankings with 593 points on the WTA site. That's all the points she has accumulated from 2021 tournaments.  . If Jo will soon be 111 according to some yet to be published rankings where is Heather? Heather has less points accumulated  in 2021 than Jo.

Heather is at 107 in the race on 406 points and Katie B at 120 on 341. Harriet isn't far behind on 308

Well...Heather will be 71 next week on the same ranking list that takes Jo down to 111 - Heather in fact has a great week and rises 3 spots to achieve that 71. It really does help show the absurdity of the WTA lists now, they dont really have any link to reality for many players

The WTA race only includes points from WTA 250 and higher events (500, 1000 and Grand Slams). The WTA ranking includes points from all events. So in this instance, the WTA race gives a misleading impression of where Jo stands relative to players who will have gained points at WTA 125 and ITF events.

Heather's WTA ranking is largely based on points she won in the first few months of 2020 (won Acapulco, semi of Hobart). These will drop on their respective anniversary (or when the tournament is next played, whichever is earlier). She is also defending R64 in Aus Open and 2nd round Abu Dhabi from 2021.

It looks as though some ITF points earned in 2019 will not drop until 2022. Bonkers! So it's looking as though Jo's best option could be to skip Australia and go for a preserved ranking but I wonder how that would be calculated? Unless she can get wildcards.

Surely that article only applies to ITF rankings, not WTA/ATP rankings ?

I'm not entirely clear myself but players like Heather enter both WTA and ITF tournaments whilst Jo has only entered WTA tournaments which might explain how Heather gets ranked higher than Jo on fewer WTA points. Maybe?

How can Heather rise 3 spots when she has lost her last 6 singles matches.?.

It is a possibility that Jo won't get entry into the Australian Open unless she has changed her stance over CovId vaccinations. This might apply to some other players as well.

Not sure though that Jo has a particularly hard stance on covid vaccination. Didn't she say she would consider things depending on the Australian authorities' stance.

Though I guess thar double vaccinated might be rather a problem for anyone not yet single vaccinated.

Quite a few countries are doing 3 week intervals for Pfizer. As originally. So I guess you could fit that in still.
