It looks as though some ITF points earned in 2019 will not drop until 2022. Bonkers! So it's looking as though Jo's best option could be to skip Australia and go for a preserved ranking but I wonder how that would be calculated? Unless she can get wildcards.
Surely that article only applies to ITF rankings, not WTA/ATP rankings ?
I'm not entirely clear myself but players like Heather enter both WTA and ITF tournaments whilst Jo has only entered WTA tournaments which might explain how Heather gets ranked higher than Jo on fewer WTA points. Maybe?
Of Heather's 949 points, 138 are from 2019 ITFs, including 100K and 60K titles and 421 points from early 2020
Jo is ranked slightly lower than she would otherwise because a lot of players around the 100 mark have 2019 and 2020 ITF counters. On all 2021 points alone (including ITFs) she is ranked 103 according to OER

I have just emailed them to ask for clarification on this.
It seems very unfair that Heather is allowed to keep all those 2019 points whereas Jo has to lose hers. Keeping 2019 points beyond the end of this year is to me bonkers. Those players from countries where travel has been difficult could be awarded some kind of protected status but it is simply unfair now on players competing and travelling.

Thanks for the heads-up on the OER site, I've not seen it before. Brilliant, you'd think the WTA could provide, at the very least, an official ranking breakdown by player with upcoming drops.
Yes, Jo is due to drop 245 points on 08/11 in line with a WTA statement in September regarding outstanding 2019 WTA tournament points. 65 from Indian Wells and 180 from Rabat.
Jo is 83 in the race. Does this imply she will regain some places when it all gets sorted out?
Jo's 83 in the Porsche singles rankings with 593 points on the WTA site. That's all the points she has accumulated from 2021 tournaments. . If Jo will soon be 111 according to some yet to be published rankings where is Heather? Heather has less points accumulated in 2021 than Jo.
Based on the points that have Jo on 111 in the rankings, then Ons Jabeur is 7 in the world and should be going to the WTA finals. Ons has more ranking points than Kontaveit,Swiatek and Badosa. On that basis Badosa should not be at the WTA finals.

Presumably Ons has more 2020 points in her counter for ranking purposes, than Badosa, whereas on just year to date, Badosa has done better. Normally, as with ATP, these would be one and the same at year end but this year they divert away from each other. Same in the mens last year, where they cancelled the Race and just used ranking points. This year the Race is in place but the points will still diverge. Next year presumably for both men and women (at the top ie those that dont have ITF events in their totals) the two tables will come togethe again, at least at top 8 level.
So Badosa benefits in the Race because that Ranking is just on 2021 points, as it should be
To be honest, if this isn't sorted out soon, I can see a lawsuit coming the WTAs way. It's grossly unfair to those players that should be getting DA to bigger tournaments and aren't right now because the WTA can't come up with a reasonable system. Harriets current 616 points would ordinarily see her close to DA entry into the AO, instead she is nearly 150 points short and that's just 1 player, there will be countless others affected and from countries where they don't get the level of financial support that our players do.
Well...Heather will be 71 next week on the same ranking list that takes Jo down to 111 - Heather in fact has a great week and rises 3 spots to achieve that 71. It really does help show the absurdity of the WTA lists now, they dont really have any link to reality for many players
Well... Kyle Edmund is 122 this week on the same ranking list Andy Murray is 143 - Kyle in fact had a great week rising 1 spot to achieve that 122. It really does show the absurdity of the ATP lists now, they don't really have any link to reality for many players.
When exactly did British number 3, Kyle Edmund last win a match on tour?
Kyle's last win was the US Open August 2020 - he lost to Djokovic in the second round. Followed that with 4 first round losses, the last being Vienna in October 2020.
So over a year now.

So when do ATP 2020 points drop, I wonder? It looks like Jo has lost most of hers already.
Daily Mail report on Edmund's fitness, but within it there's a tiny passage saying:
"That is also expected to take place without another former GB No 1, Jo Konta, who may well have formalised her retirement plans by then."
I mean (classic Jo), I don't think it would be a huge surprise if she did call it a day soon, but it still seems weird having that bundled in midway through, almost as an afterthought.

Um, the Battle of the Brits is men only so it was always goig to be without Jo regardless of if she is retiring or not.

There have been numerous reports in our papers about Jo retiring soon, which started with the defeat in Paris. In previous years she's had a press conference in December so maybe something about any retirement will be announced/ reported officially then.
