The only seeds drawn against each other are 1/15 and 10/18. That means that both Katie and Elena would be in the draw for LL spots if they lose tomorrow as the no 1 seed would have qualified and they both fall within the 4 highest ranked players remaining. Let's hope it's academical and that they both qualify by right. Best of luck.
I too hope they qualify by right, but given that you only get 10 extra points for winning in the FQR, they wouldn't have missed out on too much pointswise if they got in through a LL slot.

On an aside, does anyone know what the LTA view is with regard to younger players and different surfaces? It seems fairly commonly believed that the best players learn on clay, so are there any attempts to get our youngsters onto the surface, or increase the number of clay courts we have? We would seem to be disadvantaging them considerably if not - Anne often says she wished she'd played on it more earlier, and players like Mel who hate the stuff are always going to be disadvantaged in reaching the top of the game (though was interested to hear in that interview that she thought RG played more like a hard court).
