Can anyone explain why the points increase so little for the second qualifying win - it seems bizzare: from 40 to 50 points for one win! I guess it's 60 for the FQR then - which might just put Katie just inside the top 100 mightn't it? She's currently 582 with Amanmuradova on 638. Although the points wouldn't go on straight away so I don't suppose it'll actually happen. It's all a bit confusing...

Edit - oh, forgot she'd have 20 coming off, so still won't be enough unless she gets a first round main draw win, which seems improbable. To be honest, I'd quite like to see an all-British first round tie, just to get one of them through - though it looks like Anne might not need that helping hand.

It's a mystery to me too, though it kind of follows from the qualifying points for tournaments with 56/64 draws, e.g. Premier Mandatories and Premiers 5s go 1 / 20 / 30.

That's already quite weird (i.e. why not 1 / 15 / 30 or something like that?) but they seem to have doubled this for slams (2 / 40 / 60) then realised that they've got an extra qualifying round to cater for and instead of making it 2 / 20 / 40 / 60, which might have looked vaguely logical, they've kept the 40 for getting through one round and the 60 for qualifying and inserted a 50 for getting through two rounds as a bit of an afterthought. confuse

Main draw points are a bit odd too - 2 for going out in R1, 98 more for getting through to R2, 60 more for getting through to R3, 120 more for getting through to R4 ... confuse

Meanwhile, in 10Ks, it's the other way round (winning R2 more important rather than less) because you get 1 points for winning R1, 3 more for winning R2, 2 more for winning the QFs, 2 more for winning the SFs and 4 more for winning the Final. confuse

You couldn't make it up ... except that someone did, and worse still, some committee somewhere approved it! ashamed
Katie's defending 30 points (that's how many points she got for reaching qr2 at RG last year) so she has a net gain of 20 so far. Hopefully she'll manage to add some more points from Nottingham whatever happens tomorrow.

Another good blog from Katie this week btw, in case it hasn't been highlighted elsewhere: http://www.lta.org.uk/Articles/Katie-OBrien-blogs/18052009---Clay-court-season-arrives/ - looks like she was hiding near the back of the stands at the Wimby event on Sunday!
