Week 20 - Womens Roland Garros Qualifying

From 5-6 down Katie won 11 of the next 14 points to seize the iniative and the first set . I hope that is a form tip for the second set

Rus has just won - on this evidence, you have to think that'd be a big ask for Katie. But who knows??

And is MLDB capable of winning anything in straight sets? Maybe she just gets bored. Can't wait for the reaction to her screaming at Wimbledon!

Wahey! 3-0. Where do they get these stats from? 6 unforced errors and 71 winners between them?! Surely that cannot be true!

I think the glitch is that during qualifying, only double faults increment the number of UEs and everything other point won counts as a winner.

katie squanders 2 double break chances, that could be vital.

*3-1

I don't know why jb288 believes a win over Rus would be such a big ask. Katie has played better than Rus this year, she also has the experience of qualifying for the AO and she will have been spurred by Anne's exploits this week. My only nagging doubt is that as she gets close to that top 100 spot again her mental strength to achieve that big career goal comes into question.

Yeah but the total number of points is twice that...I think it's just over zealous computer people!

Philwrig - I'm just saying it'll be a very tough match, it's Rus' favourite surface and she's had some good wins on clay this year. But Katie's also had some great wins as we all know, so let's wait and see - really hope her mental game is up to it. But got to win this one first!

Yes! Good work, Katie - impressive grinding out when she could have let the missed opportunities get her down.

This win leaves the US as the only place she hasn't reached FQR or better - and I'm pretty confident she won't need to qualify by then. This is already by far the best RG for British girls in years - before the Main draw's even begun!
