RE: Week 20 - Womens ITF ($10K) - Antalya-Manavgat, Turkey II

I think she got outclassed by Amanda ''2011 RG Champ'' Carreras - and I love it!

Amanda and Anne should go train together on clay, they could do quite well I feel :)

We seem to be out-bandwagoning MTF at the moment wink

Lmao, I'm proud to be hitching a ride on the Carreras bandwagon!

But in truth, there are so many small players that play great on clay and other surfaces too, like Henin (no ****) Pironkova, Cibulkova etc.

Very, very tight, but she did the double double! biggrin

FI: Amanda Carreras WR 492 beat (Q) Sandra Roma (SWE) UNR by 7-6(7) 6-7(2) 6-4 smile.gif

She has now won both the singles and doubles titles two weeks in a row, 17 matches in succession (10 singles, 7 doubles) and her record in May 2009 is W 13 L 1 in singles and W 7 L 1 in doubles, all on clay. Amazing! biggrin

She has 8 points coming off at the end of RG but even if she scores no more points between now and then, she should be in the low 440s on 8 June.

we've got a nice group of youngsters gathering between 350-450, let's hope they can all push on further and start to pressurise 'the big 5'.

Congratulations to Amanda!

Interestingly she is listing the 25K tournament in Szczecin, Poland (played on clay obviously) as her first priority for the week of 8th June. Hopefully this means she is going to start transitioning up to challenger events, which is exciting as she clearly has clay court talent (feels weird typing that).

Great to see Amanda produce some excellent results and winning back-to-back singles and doubles titles on clay is a great achievement for her.

Hopefully she can carry this form to the next level and start to push up the rankings.

A big WELLDONE to Amanda...Obviously great skill and amazing fitness to boot to win 17 matches on the bounce.

The women certainly are ahead of our guys with the exception the the world number 3.

Whoever said British girls can't play on clay? Anne and Amanda have debunked that myth over the last week I reckon, though obviously Mandy grew up on it; just to return to a previous question - does anyone know if the LTA is making an effort to get our younger players onto clay early on, as there seems to be a consensus that it's the best for development, but obviously we have woeful lack of clay courts here...

About the clay thing. She was born in Gibraltar though wasn't she?

That might help early clay court development.
