and thats why i should have left this answer to the experts.....coz i think i am wrong now. phillips will have 23pts the week after so he will move into 25th leaving smethurst 26th (depending on tomorrow obviously)
Great wins for Marcus and Dan and hopefully one of them can produce an upset and make their first final.
Dan's win is probably the more impressive given that Sabau used to be top 100 and he lost the first set so easily, so great to see him fight back like he did.
Shame Josh lost, but another QF is still a good result for him - it seems the young Brits are all coming into form ahead of the grass court season, so it's going to be quite a fight for the qualifying WC's.

I think Dan will be in the GB Top 25 on Monday, when he'll have 17 points to the Wardinator's 16 and Morgan's 9 (there are other Brits between Alex and Morgan too), but the running totals as at the end of RG are:
23 Phillips 22 Smethurst 15 A Ward
However, Bam Bam will drop 20 points (16 for GRE F3 r/u + 4 for Surb. Q+L32) at the end of RG to leave him with 22 as well, with Jonny Kinsella (dropping 4) and Ken Skupski (dropping 8 after dropping 24 this week as well) going down to 22 too, while Dr No will add 1 and drop 2 to give him 23. Of course, all this will change if any of these players score Futures points next week or Challenger points in e.g. Nottingham the week after.
I'm going to leave all of the players who are in contention on next week's GB Top 25 table (and I don't guarantee that any of the numbers above are correct until I've done that!) and hopefully that will give us some chance of following what's going on!

SF: Marcus Willis WR 893 lost to (3) Artem Smirnov (UKR) WR 472 by 6-7(3) 6-4 6-4 SF: (SE) Daniel Smethurst WR 1102 beat (2) Alexander Jakupovic (GRE) WR 491 by 4-6 6-3 6-4
FI: (SE) Daniel Smethurst WR 1102 v (3) Artem Smirnov (UKR) WR 472
This is starting to become a bit like his "partner in crime" Evo's run last summer! I must admit, I thought if anyone had a slight chance of reaching the Final it was Marcus, though it's no disgrace to lose that one.
Edit: scores added - very close, with both winners coming from a set down!

Fantastic win for Dan. Shame Marcus couldn't make it a double, but perhaps that's being greedy. Let's hope Dan can carry on downing seeds and win the final. The young guns are beginning to show us what they can do. I'm looking forward to following their progress more closely and reading of their upward mobility in the ranking stakes.

I think Dan is now headed for the GB Top 20 after RG, not just the GB Top 25!
Edit: In fact, Dan is the prospective GB no. 18 as at 8 June at the moment (taking into account points gained so far and points to come off at the end of RG), up from 26th at the start of this week, and Marcus is the prospective GB no. 19, up from 25th at the start of this week.

Wow, no disrespect to Dan, but that's the last outcome I expected! Well done to him & commiserations to young Marcus. Irrespective of the results, they both did British tennis proud today. Onwards & upwards, lads! Would love to think Dan can make it three titles this weekend in the final tomorrow, assuming Morgan adds the second later this afternoon...
For someone who is ranked 1102 he should be beating / being competetive to the unranked and those lower and around his own ranking.
Winning the matches against those ranked 749 to 393 does show he has potential to rise up the rankings himself. Losing to 2 players in the low 300's is no surprise either.
The final Sunday is against a player ranked 472. On current form I reckon he has a chance but Artem did win last weeks title and the lowest ranked player he has lost to this year is 848.
So I give him a 1 in 8 chance of winning. 1 in 2 chance of taking a set.
Whatever the outcome he is having a very good 'May'
Brilliant win for Dan and hopefully he can claim his first futures title tomorrow, although it is going to be tough for him to do so.
Shame that Marcus couldn't make it and all-British final, but it was still a strong effort from him and hopefully he can have another good week next week.
