Yes, that's what I was thinking ... unless it was really Grimolizzi out there all the time, but Phil's description has enough in it to suggest it really was Maniel. (3) Guez next for Maniel.

Maniel had an english accent as well. I spoke to one of Golding's entourage and said that there was some confusion over whether Bains had won yesterday and he seemed completely mystified.I also spoke to one of the physios who suggested that the spaniard who hewitt beat yesterday was complaining about an injury but had managed to play doubles afterwards.

They did lose the doubles quite easily, 2&1.
Whoops! My comment should have gone at the end of Phil's post if it is to make any sense at all. Must have pressed the wrong quote.

What a great win for Smethurst, good to see Morgan win too. That's probably at least as good as we could have hoped for from today.

A pity all four Brits ended up in different QFs really, but hopefully one of them will find a way to keep this good week going!

I wonder if the reason for the better results this week is that the courts they are using only have a light covering of clay and are playing nearly like a hardcourt

Great wins for Morgan and Smethurst (who finally seems to have got going this season), while Cox completed the win we expected from him.
Hopefully one of the four can make the semi finals here - Cox looks to be playing really well this week, while if Golding could get a set off Olaso, then surely Morgan must have a chance as less, while Smethurst is ranked higher than King, so it's not unreasonable to suggest he could win - probably Bains is the only one who doesn't really stand a chance.
I believe Golding is a promising young player but not in Laura Robson's class. Currently I would give him genuine top 100 potential but no more (I'd love to be proved wrong) There is huge potential for him to improve physicially so we'll see.
