RE: Dan Evans

Interesting. Cheers for that JonH wink

I think also Dan may now have overtaken Jeremy Bates as Solihull's finest - Jeremy as I recall had a CH in the low 40s. Useless piece of trivia I know wink

Not sure if this Dan thread is the latest but thought I would post here anyway. ATP have an interesting insight into how Dan's return has turned him into someone performing at top 20 level.

Looking out 5 weeks, both Dan and Kyle are effectively 8 places higher than currently with no points to lose and those higher than them losing more. So Dan could be top 40 by end Feb/early March, Kyle mid 40's

 Tx.

It starts:

"Daniel Evans is a slow burn that has spectacularly caught fire."

Which I actually read as :

Daniel Evans is a slow brummie that has spectacularly caught fire....

Except as the article mentions the 60 points that Dan does have to drop in February, actually next Monday 06/02 from last year's Dallas final. And Kyle has 100 ( net 90 ) to drop from winning that final.

And of course even if other players have more points to drop coming up they are also allowed to win more points in this coming period. Hopefully not though and the guys are pretty well positioned to progress after next week.

Interesting stuff on Dan, thanks for the link, particularly these top return stats and the improvement from 2016, though just for now it is one month against one year. But keep figures like that up and great things could lie ahead. On the serving side that ace count is rather remarkable, keep taking the spinach.

I think I made the schoolboy error of believing Live Rankings which I think suggested nothing to drop, but even so, good opportunity to move forwards, partic for Dan as he will play a run of events on US Hardcourts (indoor and out) over the next week - he seems to be very at home in US (and Australia) maybe they suit his Brummie heritage more than traipsing across the cold indoor European circuit?

Dan is in a much better position to counter the lost points other next 2 months.

Dan has 3 zero pointers to use up, so any wins will eat into those 160 dropped points over the next 2 months.

Edmund has to win at least 2 matches to improve on his ranking after the Dallas points come off.

It is just very heartening that both players are scoring points on the main tour, for me seeing the challenger points come off is merely a reminder of the level they were playing this time last year, both guys have moved up a division where they are more than punching their weight. Dan's break point conversion percentage.... better than Feds so far this year .... wow!!! his head is now definitely in the right place.

By the way, in case anyone has missed it, Evo is involved in the Tie Break Tens event in Madrid tonight. He's up against Dimitrov first.

In the UK it's apparently showing on the Dave TV channel from 6:30pm!

Well I never! How totally random of them. Thanks for the tip.

Dimitrov beat Evo but it was very close. Halep beat Joko and it wasn't close at all but a very smiley handshake at the net was good to see. (I didn't watch this live just saw the extracts on Twitter).

Poor old Dan referred to Aga as a chick and then realizing his error said "erm the other lady" and is being completely slaughtered for it on Twitter. He is only guilty of not knowing how to pronounce Radwanska I reckon but her fans have decided it is an act of sexism on a par with Trump's "grab em by the p****" remarks. I do believe some people are being a touch oversensitive.

Poor Dan. He's getting strangled by his twitter account these days. A bit of self-induced muteness might be recommended.
But I agree, theemmptyvessel, a lot of people are very quick to find offence these days.
However, Dan has posted a very good apology, which is all he could do.

(NB A group of my female friends always refer to their love of 'chick flicks', which is a term that makes me smile).

I think you're right. I misread it. My fault.
