Arrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice article but sums up the problem with British tennis. Dan is seen as the exception ie a good athlete from a working class background, because of this he is not expected to bleed tennis.? I was sat in the staff room at Millwall when Villa were knocked out of the FA Cup last season, all the lads came into the changing room NZogbia was bleating about having bottles thrown at him, and Gabby (Agbonlahour) pointed out they were only plastic, all that time Fabian Delph, who having missed a substantial part of his career having his knee reconstructed, had spent 60 minutes marauding around the park putting his foot in at any opportunity only to injure his ankle, was growling about the quality of their performance and the quality of the opposition. The last 12 months has seen him literally kick on, bleed football, usually in a loosing cause, as a consequence he has develop into a top class premiership player. Tennis in comparison is so bereft of elite talented athletes that when they come along they get every opportunity regardless of up bringing. A major problem is that only 100 players in the world earn a good living but Dan is not like Fabian Delph, he in contrast has the touch of Gordan Cowans, mate your future is golden if you can be bothered.
personally I love watching Dan play seen him several times since aged 17 at Edinburgh. You never know which Dan will turn up and he is never boring to watch
Good point, he is a gifted and graceful tennis player to watch, but if he could get in the top 30, and he is good enough, the whole country would have the opportunity of watching him, his talent would get to the forum it deserves, he is the only player who can get it there and in reality if his career maintains its present trajectory you won't get to see him for long unless he really enjoys playing tennis for fun as opposed for a living like the rest of us.
(I can't remember whether or not this is the most recent Evo thread but it's the most recent one that comes up on Activeboard's still rubbish search)
"What's happened to Evo?" is the most frequent question I have been asked on Twitter by far in the last few months, so I did a retweet/reply today (instead of just replying to the questioner that I don't know but I believe he may be recovering from the knee injury that was hampering him during the summer) and Mike Dickson from the Daily Mail saw it and reports that "I am informed he plans to return to training this week (although haven't heard that direct from him)"

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, which some might say would be generous, one could conclude that Dan had a breakthrough year in 2013, understandably tired towards the end it, started 2014 pretty well and then saw his year wrecked by a knee injury. With Dan you never really know what is going so I guess the whole truth about this year will remain a mystery. All we can do is see what 2015 brings.

well I hope he does well in 2015 Dan proved with his Davis Cup wins he has the talent.
He's had the knee problem since the end of 2013, battled through the start of this year with the aid of injections, fingers crossed the rest has got him back near to 100 % and he can show that talent of his to the fullest extent in 2015.
If Dan starts playing again at the start of next year, will he have been out long enough to qualify for a PR ? How long do you have to miss through injury to be eligible.
Let's hope the rest and recuperation means that Dan is fully fit to resume in January.
How do they work out the PR? Is it based on your ranking when you first withdrew due to the injury? If so Dan must be regretting not withdrawing before the US Open. I guess you can't blame him for wanting to attempt to repeat his run there but form in the challengers compared to last year suggested this was unlikely. Was this perhaps unwise or am I misunderstanding the PR system? Also I guess his knee may just have got worse since then.

Average ranking of the first 3 months after the last tournament played.
