Congrats to Ward on winning a title - definately the best result of his career and hopefully he can build on it throughout the grass season - think there's a great chance of WC's to all four GB events and hopefully he can have a couple of decent runs.
And to think... for the all the effort that Rafa and Nole put in... it wasn't a final... and Rafa will have to do it all again tomorrow.
I'd be very surprised if Del Potro could beat Federer - his game just matches up so perfectly with Fed's, and Federer has won so easily in all their previous meetings.
Right, back to the person this thread really belongs to - I think Wardy's list of results this week is worth completing:
QR2: (q1) James Ward WR 271 beat Roman Borvanov (MDA) WR 564 by 2 & 3 FQR: (q1) James Ward WR 271 beat Treat Conrad Huey (PHI) WR 1116 by 3 & 2
L32: (Q) James Ward WR 271 beat Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) WR 364 by 4 & 3 L16: (Q) James Ward WR 271 beat (2) Vince Spadea (USA) WR 105 by 6-0 5-2 ret. QF: (Q) James Ward WR 271 beat Jonathan Dasnières de Veigy (FRA) WR 312 by 3-6 6-1 6-4 SF: (Q) James Ward WR 271 beat Michael Yani (USA) WR 249 by 6-2 3-6 7-6(5) FI: (Q) James Ward WR 271 beat (4) Carsten Ball (AUS) WR 213 by 7-6(4) 4-6 6-3
... and as you all know, this makes James the first British man to win a clay court singles title at Challenger level or above since Tim Henman in Seoul in 1995, and the first Brit to win 7 matches in a row on clay since ... well, even I'm not going to try to go back that far! (edit: probably Sue Barker when she won RG in 1976 LOL)
Of course it's three matches (not two as I said before) where James has shown huge mental strength in situations in which many of the lower-ranked Brits so often crack, but better still two of them have been against higher-ranked players.
Thanks to the 78 points (3 + 75) he gets for this, James's ranking, which has already shot up in the last few weeks) will rise almost 50 places more into the low 220s, and he's now only 8 points behind Josh as well.
James is also only the 7th Brit to win a Challenger title on any surface this century after Boggo (8), Big Arv (2), Muzza (2), Del, Cowan and Evo.
He must be feeling like he's on top of the world.
The GB top 25 table for week 19 has been updated with this result btw. It's great fun to add a result like that!

Does that total take account of the six points he was defending this week?
id say the list on perforemance of the Brits this year is
1. Ward J 2. Evans 3. Bogdanovic 4. Cox 5. Goodall 6. Fleming 7. Bloomers (based almost solely on his run in Marseille) 8. Ward A 9. Eaton (not on his Futures form!) 10. Marray
If you order the Brits by points won so far this year, you get a list that isn't too dissimilar - actual GB rankings as they were last Monday in brackets:
3170 Andy Murray (1) 113 James Ward (4) 93 Dan Evans (5) 90 Alex Bogdanovic (2) 46 Josh Goodall (3) 35 Colin Fleming (10) 33 Chris Eaton (8) 31 Dan Cox (11) 28 Richard Bloomfield (6) 18 Jonny Marray (9) 14 Alex Slabinsky (7) 12 Alexander Ward (19) 12 Ross Hutchins (26) 9 Morgan Phillips (34) 7 Joshua Milton (13) 6 Sean Thornley (17) 4 Ken Skupski (12) 4 Matthew Illingworth (14) 4 Marcus Willis (25) 2 Burnham Arlidge (20) 2 David Rice (24) 1 Jamie Baker (22)
SC: yes it does

Major props to him for this week, he's been utterly amazing. Been great to read through this thread after playing the most tedious cricket match in history (because of the weather, which ended it in abandoment 5 1/2 hours after it was due to start) and pity I missed this and the Rafa-Djoko match for it. HAHA @ bobble it as well.
