nice solid consistent points for ward in the past few weeks, and hopefully he can take ryderstadt

qualifying and drawing the last direct acceptance can't be sniffed at.

I'm hoping Ryderstedt has started to slow down a bit and hopefully the surface means its time for Wardy's revenge!

James is also playing doubles:  he & his American partner, Geoff Gehrke (I know how a German would pronounce that, but I shudder to think how the Yanks do! eyepopping.gif ), have a WC & play the American qualifiers, Ty ( disbelief )  Braswell & Derek Myers in Round 1.  Must be in with a chance... please.gif

Why are you shaking your head at the name Ty? Aside from the fact it's barely a name...

Anyone called Ty on here I'm ever so sorry and I'll get my coat.

*readies coat*

Well done to James for qualifying here, and Ryderstadt is a nice first round draw in all honesty - never had him down as a great clay courter, and given Ward's recent performances, he's someone who he should have a good chance of beating.

Wardy's good run, winning the matches he should win and winning them well, continues:

L32: (Q) James Ward WR 272 beat Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) WR 370 (CH: 130 in 2005) by 4 & 3 smile.gif

He's now more than defended his points, with 3+5 to replace 6, so another career high beckons as he closes in on the 250 Wimby WC cut. smile.gif Next up (2) Spadea or (Q) Berankis.

As well you should!  Actually, if you'd mentioned Ty D Trombetta instead of Huey, I'd've been looking for something rather more deadly than bad eggs & rotten tomatoes to hurl in your direction...! biggrin

To try to answer Chris's question, I thought disbelief = disbelief rather than a straight shake of the head for "no", i.e. I just can't believe that Yanks persist in calling their kids such ridiculous names!  That said, if DJ were still with us, he'd probably know whom I meant if I referred to an American actor by the "name" of Ty Hardin, my first encounter with the "name"...

P.S.  Well done, James. biggrin

I see he fared better than his fellow qualifier, Bernie Tomic (AUS), who lost out to Michael Yani (US) by 4-6 6-3 6-7(2)! smile

Impressively comfortable - his defeat to Ryderstedt in Stockholm was a little over 6 months ago. An encouraging turnaround. Well done to James!

Why do you mock this Gehrke? No mocking will kill this wonder of the west. For if he pearched from a tree you might have the right to kill...Only time will tell you fools
