It appears that Alex turned round and bent over for Meffert in the end. The german isn't the most impressive of players, aside from his serve, so I wouldn't have expected Alex to have been broken as often as he was. However I can't say I'm shocked.
Can you remember where it all went wrong for Boggo? He started off the year quite well if I remember right.
I think he ran into an inspired de Chaunac at the Aussie Open qualies who was playing as well as he ever has, and he doesn't seem to have really recovered from that.
I suppose the loss to Koning in Wolfsburg when he was the better player and got screwed by a crucial line call at 5-5 in the second didn't help - and neither did losing from a set and a break up to Evans in Jersey, where he'd surely have won the title otherwise.
Some of the losses eg. Santoro, Ouanna - he's actually played well but just been edged out in tiebreaks where he just hasn't played the big points well enough.
He doesn't seem to be playing badly (nor is he playing too well either), but things aren't going for him this season, and he's just not had the results to build up the confidence.
If he'd managed to hold at 3-4 today, then he may have been able to go on and win the manage, but as soon as he lost serve then, I think we all knew the match was over.
Jersey was where i 1st got the hint that maybe thing weren't 100% right (even tho it was his best result of the year!).
i thin k he is also worrying about the huge points total he has to defend in the summer.
You really think that when he is out on court facing forehands and serves he is thinking of potential long term point losses? I think that most tennis players are aware that the only way to play is to think of the next point and nothing else.
I watched (via live stream) Alex playing in Wolfsburg and although I know that he is a placid creature he didn't show any level of emotion or determination - he just seemed kind of deflated and low on confidence.
yoshi's score has now changed to 7-6 7-6. maybe he won the two tie breaks 7-2 and 7-4?
he will now play either Niland or Johansson who play later.

Would be a great win for Josh if he did win, and this is definately his best result of the season - I'm sure he's beaten Niland before, while Pim-Pim is capable of getting injured at any moment, so that could help Josh.

i agree, but i think in alex's case it does effect him. I am sure when he has also played in DC and wimby he worries what the LTA/media will say if he loses. i know he should not worry about this , but i get the impression he does, which then effects him negatively.
i might be wrong of cousre, as really i have no idea exactly what goes on in Alex;s head a lot of the time and he is a very 'closed' person, but its something i have felt for a while now.

josh has a 2-1 H2H record over niland. there last meeting was in GB F6 last year when he beat him in the final in straight sets. he has never played johansson.

Well done Josh, hope he can complete the double over Sergeyev in the doubles. He does seem to string wins together at challenger level every now and again.
Not surprised Boggo lost, he does seem to struggle against big servers for whatever reason.

Even if he only thinks about ranking points off court, it may still add to the pressure and loss of confidence with which he goes into matches.
that's a great win for Josh, tho. a shame he didnt get Q point too, but these are probably 2 of his best wins, if you look at ranking for the 1st and recent history for th 2nd.
On boggo, looking back this year he hasn't had many straight sets wins; just over slabba, braccelli, milton & akkoyun this week. So i think perhaps signs have been there that he has struggled for consistency his year, he has swapped racquets at the start of the year, i suppose something like that could have an effect.

Really sad about Alex (and so frustrating, he's way too good a player to be in this kind of mess yet again) but what a brilliant result for Josh - from looking like he was Flopsy's bunny, he's gone and won a match him where there were more points at stake than in either of the matches he lost. I hope this helps him turn his season around a bit.
