Gallardo-Valles is 27 and reached a career high of 189 back in 2002. He beat Bamford in 3 sets last year and last lostto a Brit (Matt Smith) in 2005.

At a guess, it would have been week 37 last year, when Colin Fleming reached the SFs at the Nottingham Future and thus got the points he needed to get back on the rankings, and at the same tournament, Alexander Farquharson reached the QFs and Nick Cavaday reached R2, though he had been ranked before too.

No more points this week, sadly, but I didn't expect Philip to manage to take a set off someone ranked in the top 600 with home advantage.
