I'd imagine that Hewitt would definately play this event as long as he isn't injured and would be a decent threat given how he normally raises his game for his country, while Baghdatis is starting to re-find some form, but if Andy did play, you would expect him to easily win the gold medal.
I don't know if this applies to the other home nation teams as well, but while there will be 26 direct acceptances for CG singes and 13 for CG doubles based on the 2 Aug 2010 rankings with no more than 4 men and 4 women per country over all of the events combined, the Scottish selection criteria appear to be that you must also meet one or more of the following conditions:
a) ranked among the top 8 players eligible to compete in at least 4 separate weeks during the selection period (1 Jun 2009 - 2 Aug 2010) of which at least 2 weeks must be in the last 4 months of that period
OR b) a win against a top 8 Commonwealth player or an equivalent world-ranked player between 1 Jun 2009 - 2 Aug 2010
So based on the rankings above, that would mean the men having to be in the top 130 for singles (or, referring back to my May 2009 list for doubles, much higher for doubles) or (again for singles) to have beaten a player ranked 130 or higher between 1 Jun 2009 - 2 Aug 2010.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
I emailed commonwealth England to find out, this is what they replied:
Thank you for your email about selection criteria for Tennis Players at the Commonwealth Games. I am writing to confirm that this is not set by this organisation, but by the appropriate National Governing Body of Sport, so for the case of Tennis it would be the Lawn Tennis Association.
Im not holding my breath of getting a quick answer from the LTA!!
I should not have doubted the LTA, they responded very fast:
Thanks for your email. In terms of the criteria for the Commonwealth Games, selection is likely to be made on WTA and ATP ranking however Im not sure of the amount of places that will be available at the moment. The criteria Im sure will be made available much nearer the time but for the moment Im not too sure who will be selected for the 2010 Games.
It is probably worth to wait a little bit nearer the time when we can provide some further, more detailed information for you.
I think this is my biggest problem with the LTA, they just don't make things clear and easy for their players and for the fans. It's the same with the Davis Cup. I understand that they want a little bit of leeway to choose some of their players, but it just leaves them open to accusations of bias and elitism.
At the moment all Scottish players know what they need to do in order to qualify, where as a player like Alex has no clear idea of what is required to get there.
maybe thata the point though. would it surprise you if the lta didnt want to take boggo? if they set a target he is probably the most likely to achieve it.

Interesting speculation. I couldn't access the link but the Scottish selection criteria seem very restrictive. Top 8 or winning against a top 8 player will be impossible for most contenders. This leaves only 1 contender (AM) for singles and 2 for doubles at best. Jamie Baker would be struggling unless he gets a Davis Cup place.
I doubt Andy would even consider going. The security implications alone would make him a big name terrorist target. Likewise the other big name players on the list. Persuading the other eligible players to give up a weeks points gathering will be difficult as the Commonwealth Games do not have the Qudos of the Olympics. With all the other sports vying for places there might be no Scottish tennis participation if the few eligible players do not go.
England and Wales might be in a better position. England will have more players to choose from and more places available on their overall team. Perhaps the selection criteria will not be as harsh. Wales might too opt to reserve a place or two for tennis. Lets hope so or the tournament will be a damp squib!
