2009 Madrid Masters Question

The 2009 Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open is being played on indoor clay this year. For the past eight years it has been played on hard court. Murray won this last year (on hard). Does this mean he is going to have to defend his hard court title on clay? If so hes going to lose a bunch of points

RE: 2009 Madrid Master Question

No, he keeps his points for 52 weeks whatever happens to the tournament in question.

You could think of it as Madrid 2009 being the new Hamburg, Shanghai 2009 being the new Madrid and London WTF being the new Shanghai TMC, though apart from Madrid/Hamburg, the weeks don't quite match.

RE: 2009 Madrid Masters Question

well he made the 3rd round at hamburg 08. so pretty much if he makes the 3rd round at Madrid 09 and he wins Shanghi 09 (as he won madrid 08) he will defend all points. So complicated
