15 year old Borthwick v 14 year old Ren should be an interesting match. I saw Daneika at the Bath tournament and she looked pretty good, moved around well and hit the ball hard and flat. She collected one ranking point at Bath and another one here so she only needs a point from one more tournament to get a ranking.
Some very, very good results today. Are we sure this is been played on clay like the mens!? Great for Vickers to take out a former Brit basher Pauline Wong and nice to see Cornish return to the seniors with a win. Also great credit to Zaniewski and Jess Ren for thrashing their opponents and Borthwick for beating Thomas. I think Danni Brown's win gets her back on the rankings doesn't it?
Gutted for Ince, that would have been her best win by quite some distance but doesn't bode well for Broady.
Superb win for Sam who, after a restricted junior career because of injury largely, ironically gets her chance to play a top junior in a senior event
Hannah J also pulled out today from a junior event in a fortnight's time, so I hope that her problem doesn't stop her participation in the French Open Juniors.
This has been a pretty shonky week for the GB women (apart from some of the young, unseeded ones!) - we started the week with 8 women seeded in main draws and they have performed as follows:
- Katie in the Jo'burg QFs - Natasha went out a round before the one she was seeded to reach - the other six all went out two or more rounds before the one they were seeded to reach
