Oops ... never realised there were two Piccaris, thanks. That makes Dan's 0 & 4 loss a really rubbish result.

Illingworth's dire season continues and Pritchard and Marsalek got thrashed, the latter by a player ranked only just above him:

L32: (Q) Ben Pritchard WR 1418 lost to Mattia Livraghi (ITA) WR 772 by 0 & 3 cry
L32: Matthew Illingworth WR 705 lost to (Q) Gilles de Sousa (FRA) WR 1898 by 6-4 7-6(3) bleh
L32: (WC) James Marsalek WR 1545 lost to (Q) G Closa-Puncernau (ESP) WR 1475 by 1 & 2 cry

L32: (Q) Maniel Bains WR 1070 lost to Agustin Boje-Ordonez (ESP) WR 626 by 4 & 3 cry

Amazingly good effort from Cavaday for two sets, but in the end we only have two through R1, and one of those was playing another Brit.

As wastes of LTA money go ...

yes, in a way its strange having a clay event isnt it. the lta dont seem to want to abuse the system and have out of season events to assist out players. as we have seen some countires are pretty happy to have clay events nearly every week of the year, so why cant we have indoor futures about now?

Here's the full rundown of how a very costly 2 points were gained - look for the elusive smile.gifs

L32: (1/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 353 beat Peter Lucassen (NED) WR 694 by 4 & 1 smile
L32: (WC) Dan Smethurst WR 1056 lost to (Q) Alessandro Piccari (ITA) WR 930 by 0 & 4 cry
L32: (Q) Ben Pritchard WR 1418 lost to Mattia Livraghi (ITA) WR 772 by 0 & 3 cry
L32: (Q) Nick Cavaday WR 1170 lost to (4) Claudio Grassi (ITA) WR 449 by by 7-6(3) 6-7(5) 6-0 cry
L32: David Rice WR 904 beat (WC) Jack Carpenter UNR by 2 & 0 smilecry
L32: James Feaver WR 820 lost to (6) Tim Goransson (SWE) WR 539 by 2 & 2 cry
L32: (Q) Maniel Bains WR 1070 lost to Agustin Boje-Ordonez (ESP) WR 626 by 4 & 3 cry
L32: Matthew Illingworth WR 705 lost to (Q) Gilles de Sousa (FRA) WR 1898 by 6-4 7-6(3) bleh
L32: (WC) Tom Farquharson UNR lost to James Lemke (AUS) WR 744 by 6-1 4-6 6-3 cry
L32: (WC) James Marsalek WR 1545 lost to (Q) Guillem Closa-Puncernau (ESP) WR 1475 by 1 & 3 cry

L16: (1/Q) Alex Slabinsky WR 353 lost to (Q) Alessandro Piccari (ITA) WR 930 by 1 & 3 bleh
L16: David Rice WR 904 lost to (4) Claudio Grassi (ITA) WR 449 by 4-6 6-1 6-0 cry

Admittedly there were only two losses to lower-ranked players, but too many of them were on the wrong end of complete thrashings. Looking on the bright side, Dan Smethurst's R1 loss doesn't look quite so bad now that Slabba has only taken 4 games off Piccari as well ...

What's worse is that there are two more weeks of this clay nonsense to come!
