Sean (7) & the Indian 8th seed, Rohan Gajjar, are the only ones left standing in the bottom half of the draw. Gajjar faces Bhambri (WR 1467) in the QF. Bhambri's proving quite a handful, to say the least: he saw off Saar Steele (WR 1243/ISR) by 2 & 3 in the first round & thrashed the Japanese 4th seed, Moriya (WR 660), by 2 & 2 in the second ! I, for one, wouldn't like to bet against Gajjar's meeting a similar fate!

QF: (7) Sean Thornley WR 775 lost to (Q) Masato Hatanaka (JPN) WR 1177 by 7-6 (6) 6-1
A real pity - it's not often you get such a good chance to reach a semi when you're ranked that low.
However, Hatanaka may be better than his ranking implies. He was ranked in the top 700 a year ago and his ranking appears to be held back by the fact that he hardly ever plays outside Japan - a Spanish Satellite series in 2003 and four US Futures in 2007 were his only previous tournaments overseas.

Don't know if you've noticed but Raven Klaasen is the no.1 seed here. It's created much excitement on the ravenklaasen.net messageboard - I've copied their thread on yesterday's match below...
____________________________________________
New Delhi R2: Raven v Jiri Krkoska
Mad Elaine : Raven's match starts at 10.30am. That's 5.30am in South Africa. Argh another early morning. The cat won't be happy. Or does that make it 3.30pm? Or does that mean it's already happened? Which dimension am I in again? Ooh my head! ____________________________________________
Tim : Does anybody know a live stream? ____________________________________________
Fox : Betfair. ____________________________________________
Tim : Thanks. ____________________________________________
Crazymixer : Bet Fair is two words, Fox! Don't you ever learn? I'm continually mortified by today's youth, and I won't even begin to get on to the male of the species. :eyes roll: ____________________________________________
Lord Pi : There no corut own. ____________________________________________
Fox : They're on court now. ____________________________________________
Vandergraafgenerator : as this boards expert in all maters czech im predicting a easy win for the miserable skinny cheesemuncher ____________________________________________
Stevie : If Klaasen wins this he could reach a landmark ranking of 315. There's a graph on my stats page showing how the rankings of Top 315 will pan out over the coming year. By my calculations, Klaasen could be as high as 305 by the beginning of July. ____________________________________________
Ditzy : Hey folks! Just thought I'd let you know about my stonking win yesterday. Served like a king. Returned like a god. My match today is about to start. I'll let you know. Good luck Raven! ____________________________________________
Oystercatcher : 3-1 down ____________________________________________
Crazymixer : ________________________ Crazymixer wrote : :eyes roll: ________________________ B***** me! Even more eye rolling now, the 4th seed has lost in the top half of the draw in Uzbekistan to a frog 6-4 5-7 6-4. ____________________________________________
Lord Pi : Stevie, how many 4th seeds hvae lost in the 2nd Ruond to Frenchmen in a Futures this milenium? Got to keep him busy ____________________________________________
Stevie (7.8 seconds later) : 87. Interestingly 19 of those have been to fellow Frenchmen. The most extraordinary occurance of a 4th seed losing to a Frenchman in the 2nd Round of a Futures was when Roko Karanusic lost to Jordanne Doble in the Luxembourg F2 in Aug 2001. I imagine most of you remember that one - that was certainly Doble Trouble for Karanusic! ____________________________________________
Tim : Any live streaming? ____________________________________________
Fox : Betfair. ____________________________________________
Tim : Thanks ____________________________________________
Oystercatcher : 5-3 down ____________________________________________
Stevie : Wild Sockeye is certainly putting Raven under pressure here. He is aiming to be only the third fish to make a 3rd round this year after Tuna Altuna and Mardy. I'm sure you all know that Krkoska is nicknamed Wild Sockeye after the world-famous marine biologist Martin Krkosek who specialises in the field of Wild Sockeye Salmon. I'll be publishing my 11-part encylopedia of tennis nicknames later in the year for those struggling to keep up. ____________________________________________
Oystercatcher : First set lost 7-5. Come on Raven, wake up! ____________________________________________
Lord Pi : Just found out Boggo's down to play in the Ulan Bator chalenger next week. Shuld then be in Olympus Mons the following weak, then a grass corut tournament on Triton. Hopfully will be a week feeled, and can pick up points to push on to the Top 100. ____________________________________________
Gazeboman : Hmm, after 3 years I've still no idea why the Lord thinks we care about Bogdanovic's itinery on board dedicated to Raven Klaasen. But still, I did hear a good story about the Ulan Bator challenger. Apparently the parties are incredible... the tournament sponsor hires the back room of the Buddha And Anchor and pays 100 top chartered accountants from the region to perform erotic dances for all the players. ____________________________________________
Crabby : Surely at least someone this board has the intelligence to realise that the whole world is a just one huge pathetic hoax. Actually I very much doubt it. ____________________________________________
Ditzy : Hey folks! Just thought I'd let you know I played like a complete gnu-brained millipede today. Still next week... ____________________________________________
Vandergraafgenerator : right lets get this straight i havent posted anything for 5 mins thats a crime ____________________________________________
Oystercatcher : Raven won 5-7 7-6(5) ret.!! ____________________________________________
Mad Elaine : Hurrah! The awesome power of voodoo claims another victim! Ha ha ha!! ____________________________________________
Flathead Trout (The Poster Formerly Known As Panda) : There's only one word to describe Klaasen. And that's The Divine Absolute God-Like Legend. Holy yawzers! That's 3 and a half words! ____________________________________________
Kundabaloni : Disappointed that Raven wasn't willing to take the matchstick to Krkoska early on. Some encouraging post offices from the short spell when he did go for his shotgun but 53% first serves in play gives him almost no community chest especially on these slow hampton courts. I don't understand why he was so passive during the first 3/4 of the match because it was clearly a chimpanzee; point after point ending with a massive phelgm-some error from Raven. The flying monkeys during the second set were surely off-putting, but I really don't know why his breaststroke was quite so hopeless today. ____________________________________________
Mad Elaine : Well that match was too much for me. After eating 17 cushions and 2 sofas, and giving the cat a hernia, my neighbour's reported me for husband-abuse. :( Still, same tomorrow - good luck Raven! ____________________________________________
Heidi : Rohan Weideman & Dean O'Brien won their 1st round doubles match 6-3 6-3. Pleeeeeaaaaase, someone care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ____________________________________________
Akenstupidlongname : Don't know if you've noticed but Sean Thornley is the no.7 seed here. It's created much excitement on the seanthornley.net messageboard - here's an excerpt... Tom : Anyone know a river? Badger : Nope. King Sausage Rol : Praise bee two Boggo. Praise bee two Boggo. Amen. Insane In The Membrane Elaine : Thrice the brinded cat hath mewd Emo : Thrice and once the hedge-pig whined Third Witch : Harpier cries Tis time, tis time. ALL : Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. Eye of newt and toe of frog; Wool of bat and tongue of dog, Add thereto a tigers chaudron; Injury fall on Vijay Kannan. Lil' Stevie : That's the first time that the wool of bat and the tongue of dog has been couldron-broiled in an India Futures discussion thread since Bangalore in April 2003. Of course that was when Gregory Carraz surprised us all by taking the title without dropping a set, and when Elaine found out how to stop her noisy dog Barney from barking. Andean Avocet : Sean beat Kannan 6-3 3-6 6-4. seanthornley.net messageboard : Cackle cackle cackle. ____________________________________________
Dru : Raven won 5-7 7-6(5) ret.
