Qualies, more or less surely. Sadly this injury makes it rather unlikely that he'll get to play French Open this year, but it's okay.
I hope Cox goes to Tenerife or if that's too far from Turkey, then Rhodes - no point in playing on red clay this year. He'll surely do Edinburgh and Newcastle after that and hopefully it'll be grass straight after that. US Open qualies seems to be a possible target...
As #46 alternate he needed 14 players to drop out to make the cut for qualies, plus Olaso went past him this week so the number has risen to 15.
But don't forget that those 46 alternates are probably the same 46 alternates for pretty much every challenger in Europe that is happening that week and they will all have a different preference as to which one, if any, they chose to try and qualify for.
I don't doubt that, I was just trying to illustrate that if Dan makes the cut, chances are he's going to be one of the weaker ranked players, so it'll be tough to qualify.
Alternates 1. Polansky, Peter CAN 217 2. Koubek, Stefan AUT 22 (#7 Rhodes, #7 Tunis) 3. Veic, Antonio CRO 230 (#8 Tunis) 4. Ungur, Adrian ROU 232 (#8 Rhodes, #9 Tunis) 5. Robert, Stephane FRA 237 (#10 Tunis) 6. Pospisil, Jaroslav CZE 238 7. Kamke, Tobias GER 242 (#12 Tunis) 8. Ascione, Thierry FRA 243 (#13 Tunis) 9. Reister, Julian GER 247 (#14 Tunis) 10. Olejniczak, Dawid POL 251 11. De Bakker, Thiemo NED 252 (#15 Tunis) 12. Flock, Alexander GER 253 13. Alund, Martin ARG 254 14. Desein, Niels BEL 256 (#9 Rhodes) 15. Haider-Maurer, Andreas AUT 257 16. Dodig, Ivan CRO 258 17. Bachinger, Matthias GER 261 (#10 Rhodes) 18. Alvarez, Diego ARG 262 (#11 Rhodes) 19. Poch-Gradin, Carlos ESP 266 (#12 Rhodes, #1 Tenerife) 20. Vagnozzi, Simone ITA 268 (#13 Rhodes) 21. Niland, Conor IRL 272 (#2 Tenerife) 22. Mertens, Yannick BEL 273 (#3 Tenerife) 23. Moraru, Gabriel ROU 274 24. Guez, David FRA 277 (#4 Tenerife) 25. Capkovic, Kamil SVK 278 (#5 Tenerife) 26. Slanar, Martin AUT 280 27. Pavlovs, Deniss LAT 282 (#8 Tenerife)
So from the first 20 alternates the likes of Koubek, Veic, Unger and Robert all have an outside shot of getting a direct entrance here or at least being a high seed in Q, which surely suggests they're more likely to stick it out here and withdraw from Tunis and/or Rhodes.
Poch-Gradin, Niland, Mertens, Guez and Capkovic may decide Tenerife is a better option for them as they're more likely to get in directly there and the rest are pretty much a lottery.
Assuming half (very modest amount I would think) of #7 Kamke to #18 Alvarez and #28 Panfil to #46 Evans stay while the other half go to Rhodes/Tenerife/Tunis and the 2 SE spots are cleared, Evans would be around #26 alternate so would get in to the qualifiers, easily enough.
(All very much guess work atm, we don't even know whether BFG will be fit yet! )

Both, Jack. Some people like to turn up for events only if they are in the main draw/seeded in qualies and hence are not playing here. Also, some are playing in the other Challengers and Futures this week.
Also, a significant number of tennis players have a great sense of humour and enter Challengers that they have no intention in playing in - just utilising the money they had to pay to the ATP, I guess.
