Jaymon CRABB (AUS) WR1532 d. Joshua MILTON (GBR) (6) WR713 4-6 7-5 7-6(5) Georgi RUMENOV PAYAKOV (ESP) (8) WR752 d. Marcus WILLIS (GBR) WR944 7-5 7-6(4)
Dan's draw- (3)Pierre Metenier (FRA) vs (PR)Antal van der Duim (NED) (Q)Dennis Bloemke (GER) vs (Q)Adrien Bossel (SUI) (Q)Juho Paukku (FIN) vs (WC)Baris Erguden (TUR) (6)Thomas Oger (MON) vs (SE)Daniel Cox (GBR)
Oger WR459- With a career high inside the top 300 Cox has drawn yet another experienced pro who has had a pretty decent start to 2009. He lost to the same Chinese player in consecutive weeks at the start of the year before early exits in France to much higher ranked opponents (including Illya 'Goodall-DC-basher' Marchenko). Oger then qualified for Cherbourg Challenger by beating WR267 Haider-Maurer and WR343 Kuznetsov in three sets before falling to Bastl in round 1 and then found form when he returned to the Futures circuit. He beat four players inside the top 400 to make final and semi final appearances in France only to lose to serial-Futures winners Meffert (WR218) and Guez (WR302) when he got there. Warmed up last week by losing in round 2 to WR558 Cerovic.
If Cox could somehow get past the Monaco resident he could face Milton's conqueror in qualifying last week; WR899 Paukku and then Metenier in the quarters who he beat himself last week. Top seed and last week's champion Ilhan probably awaits in the semis.
good stuff coxy and now for my special report on Juho Paukku
Our friendly rivials over the border have been raving about this boy for a while, but from i see he hasnt done much yet, he reached a career high combined of 58, very moderate i think and got to 400 in the world. a very much hard court fin, hopeless on clay accorinding to my sources. He also gets panned alot in the davis cup, finland have a very situation to GBR in finding a nother player other than Jarko Niemanien, his davis cup record is 1-6.
posting this a bit late - but better ,late then never.
his thoughts on wimbledon wc is very interesting
Thanks for posting that. You must be referring to:
"As far as I know, if I can remain in the 600s then there is a strong possibility I will be able to get a wild card for Wimbledon" said Cox. "But obviously my plan is to get higher up the world rankings than that."
I wouldn't discount the possibility that this is a misquote, or that two things that made sense separately may have been cobbled together into something he didn't actually say.
