Here's hoping Jamie M has taken his first faltering steps along the road to rehabilitation with that win today. The fact that he & Delgo got themselves into a bit of a hole, but succeeded in digging their way back out, will surely help to boost his confidence.
* I bet the tournament organisers are relieved he won, too. If the comments I saw on the web site are anything to go by, the fact that he's Andy's brother seems to make him practically royalty!
Teehee! It would appear that the tournament organisers have discovered a member of the Celtic diaspora in far-away Portugal, one Rui MacHado - if the LS is to be believed!
The Uzbek-French partnership of Istomin & Sidorenko, who have just beaten the other two 6-4 7-6(1). They won't be a pushover, either!
Both Istomin & Sidorenko have won their Round 1 singles matches in straight sets today, so they've obviously got their eye in! Definitely no pushover...
It's good to see Jamie finally getting a win and hopefully he can have a good run here - think dropping back to challengers may be the answer in the short term just to get some wins under his belt.
The Jamies are scheduled to do battle with the Uzbek & the Frog on the central court (the royal treatment for Jamie M! ) no earlier than 12.30 BST tomorrow. Istomin & Sidorenko both have their second round singles matches, one after the other, on the other court in use, starting at 08.00 BST, so let's hope that they'll still be a wee bit tired, come the start of their doubles encounter...
The doubles partners both won their second-round singles matches in straight sets (as did the Portuguese Celt, MacHado, who took out the 8th seed, Rosol, by 2 & 5! ), but whereas Istomin was kept on court for 16 seconds shy of 2 hours by Marc López (ESP), eventually winning by 7-5 7-6(5), Sidorenko wrapped up his match with Bozo in 1:18:34 (3 & 2)! The match preceding the main doubles match of the day from the British perspective (Ivo Minar (1) vs Dominik Hrbaty) is in the early stages of a third set after an hour & 12 minutes...
Don't really know what to make of this. On the face of it it looks to have been a close match, but if Jamie was hoping for a confidence boost I can't see him having gained much from the experience. If they'd pinched it at least it would have meant two matches won in the same tournament. Is he wanting court time, or filling in until he can find a new partner, or...?
