Yes, he won 7-6(5) 3-6 6-1. The Frog, Grégoire Burquier, is next after he took out the Chilean 4th seed, Hans Podlipnik Castillo (fine old Spanish name, that... ), by 5 & 1! Coxy won in straight sets, 3 & 5 - - &, as steven supposed, tackles Inoyatov in the QFs. Given Evo's forced withdrawal, it could have been a worse day for the Brit Young Turks...!
Metenier keeps going his record of not progressing further than the 2nd round in Futures tournaments this year, great result for Coxy, with Inoyatov up next.
And for Marcus
Burquier WR571 Already on his eighth Futures event of the season, the Frenchman has a final, a semi-final and 2 quarter-final results to his name though had not beaten anyone inside the top 500 until today with the only exception being fellow frog #433 Millot in a final set tiebreak (after losing to him in 2 the previous week). Beat Sean Thornley in Canada in March 6-2, 6-3.
Definitely beatable for Willis seeing how he is playing this week!

P.S. The departure of the 6th seed, Thomas Oger, beaten 6-7(5) 5-7 by Ivan Cerovic (CRO), Podlipnik Castillo (4) at the hands of Burquier, as already reported, & Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA/2), beaten 6-3 6-7(7) 3-6 by yet another damn' Frog, Laurent Rochette, means that there's only one still standing: Marsel Ilhan, the Turkish top seed!
Two excellent wins from the young men. Marcus up first on 7, while Dan C is second singles on 6. Best of luck to both. It'd be great to have these guys in the SFs.

Burquier had an 'interesting' record against Brits last year:
- beat Eaton (straights) - beat Smethurst (straights) - beat the Skupster (straights) - beat Fitzy (straights) - lost to Goodall (straights) - beat Coupland (straights) - beat Evo (straights) - lost to Milton twice (first time in 3 sets, 2nd a few months later in straights)
Round-up
L16: (Q) Marcus Willis WR 945 beat (WC) Baris Erguden (TUR) WR 1717 by 7-6(5) 3-6 6-1 L16: (5) Dan Evans WR 327 lost to Murad Inoyatov (UZB) WR 487 by w/o L16: (Q) Dan Cox WR 703 beat (3) Pierre Metenier (FRA) WR 411 by 3 & 5
QF: (Q) Marcus Willis WR 945 v Grégoire Burquier WR 571 QF: (Q) Dan Cox WR 703 v Murad Inoyatov (UZB) WR 487

Putting those wins over Brits into context and they don't look as impressive!
Eaton was ranked outside the top 650 when the frog beat him in January 2008, way before Eaton's big run at Wimbledon, and besides the Brit has never really flourished on the Futures scene. Admittedly, the Futures title the following week where he beat Smethurst and Skupski was impressive but neither win was a battering (one tiebreak and 3 sets won by a single break). Smethurst was appearing in his first QF having only just picked up his first ranking points the previous fortnight. The win over Evo was before he was Daniel 'British Futures GOAT' Evans ranked #1133 and no disrespect to Fitzy or Tiny, but given their current rankings I'd still expect Burquier to beat them now.
So all in all, I still think Willis is in with a fantastic chance tomorrow given he's now beaten 5 players ranked above him this week. Good luck to the lad!

Don't worry, by calling it an "interesting" record, I didn't mean I thought it was particularly good, I meant 'slightly weird and you can read what you like into it' - a challenge you took up very well
He may have "only" beaten 4 higher-ranked players so far this week (his last opponent, Erguden, was ranked below him) but it's great to see Marcus getting results like he did when he was playing well last year - it's already hard to believe he hadn't gained a ranking point in his first 7 tournaments this year! He should certainly be going in thinking he can beat Burquier, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a close match.
> Daniel 'British Futures GOAT' Evans
- he's got a fair way to go before he matches, for example, Bloomers (9 GB Futures/Sat wins plus 1 in Belgium) or Hilton (8 GB Futures/Sat wins) and hopefully he'll move up to Challengers before he gets anywhere near that - Boggo only ever won one Future for that reason.
I like the idea of 'the BFG' as a nickname for him though, since as well as it standing for what you've got above, he's not that big and (on court, at least, so not necessarily a bad thing) not that friendly!

As much as 'Evo' is a perfectly apt nickname for someone who has the surname Evans, it lacks imagination. BFG on the other hand is a nickname I'd be willing to get behind!
Hopefully the twisted ankle won't take him out longer than this week so we won't have to wait too long to use it.
