H2H is 2-0 in Andy's favour, but Delpo looks in good form, though I only saw the very end of the match where he beat Rafa and Rafa looked on his last legs.
I think Andy will have to serve better than he did last night. I haven't seen the match stats but it seemed to me he wasn't getting many first serves in - or was it just that I was over-nervous?
I'm predicting a comfortable win for Andy and probably not a great spectacle. I suspect JMDP will be mentally exhausted after his victory over Rafa; take a look back over Andy's performances after wins against Roger and Rafa to get a sense of how much it takes out of a player at that stage in his development.
JMDP has been dominant on serve this week up until the match against Nadal in which he was broken 4 times. Prior to that he lost his serve just the once. His first serve percentage has been in the range 52-60% winning 79-92% on first in his opening three matches but 71% against Rafa. On 2nd his numbers are 53-67 for his first 3 matches and 46% against Nadal. I suppose my point is that Andy, even playing modestly, will put far more pressure on JMDP's serve than any of his opponents to date.
Having watched Andy play this week, I got the impression he was doing better when returning than he was when serving. His service games were okay, where you'd expect the server to do have the advantage anyway, but it was when returning serve that he put most of the pressure on his opponent.
Especially in the early part of the tournament, his first serve percentage never seem that good. Though he did up his game when he had too. The more I watch him, the more I'm realise how tactically he plays. Meaning it's not just powerful serves or ground strokes, but his smart plays that win him the points. So when he's not being put under pressure, his game doesn't look as exciting.
Tonights match should be good, but I thought last nights match would be good as well. Put as long as he gets the win, that's all that counts.
