That's amazing - his first main draw win in three attempts in Canada and it's against the top seed!
I don't know when is the last time a British qualifier took out the top seed ... or the last time when a British qualifier and a British WC both took out no. 1 seeds in the same week!
Can Sean go on to record back to back main draw wins for the first time since Guayaquil last August? Burquier reached the Final last week and the SFs the week before, but has a slightly odd record against Brits. Last year, the sequence went:
beat Eaton - beat Smethurst & Skupski (on the way to winning Tipton) - lost to Goodall - beat Fitzy - beat Coupland & Evo (on the way to being runner-up in Ilkley) - lost to Milton - lost to Milton again
L16: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 794 v Grégoire Burquier (FRA) WR 594 - n/b 15.30 GMT L16: (Q) Max Jones WR 1547 v (Q) Kaden Hensel (AUS) WR 796 - approx. 17.00 GMT

Stunning win for Thornley who has finally got going this year in seems after the trip had brought no success, but that's probably his best win of his career.
Good win for Jones as well, and it would be great if the two of them could make the quarter finals.
As I had feared after not getting any early results notification today, it's not good news - just 5 games each:
L16: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 794 lost to Grégoire Burquier (FRA) WR 594 by 2 & 3 L16: (Q) Max Jones WR 1547 lost to (Q) Kaden Hensel (AUS) WR 796 by 1 & 4
Nevertheless, it has to go down as a good week overall for these two, even if they do only come away with a single ranking point each.
