I presume it took so long for the match which decided their opponents to be played because Melo & Sá were originally scheduled to play Ancic & JWT, but Ancic became ill during his R2 match with Ljubo & retired at 3-3 in the first set, which in turn forced them to scratch in the doubles, PHM & Safin coming in as alternates.
[..] Hutch & Huss not ranked high enough to get in on their own merit, I take it.
Just for the record, "Hussy" is at the $125,000 Challenger in Sunrise. He tried to qualify for the singles MD, but lost in three sets in QR1 to the Russian, Artur Chernov. He's playing doubles with his compatriot, Paul Hanley, & they're the third seeds. Hanley also tried to qualify for the singles & in fact got one round futher than Stephen, but went out to the q2, Björn Phau.
