RE: Week 11 - Womens ITF (10K) - Bath

Great wins from Jade and Naomi, and good fight from Daneika!

I went yesterday to take some photos but arrived too late to see Jade Curtis win her close  singles match.

Daneika Borthwick looked good, she is not 16 until May. She is fast around the court and hits hard and low from the back of the court but she also had the confidence to come into the net and put the ball away either with a forehand or an overhead. She took an early lead in the 1st set and held it to take the set.
She lost her serve early in the 2nd and several times fought back to earn a break point but never managed to convert it.
In the third she seemed to be getting rather frustrated with herself and started to lose concentration. Definitely someone to watch for the future though.

Naomi Broady went a break down but after several attempts she managed to break back with a winner right on the line. It looked as if the tie break could go either way until Naomi put on the pressure and crept ahead to take the first set.
In the second set Naomi proved just too consistent and too powerful for her opponent.

Jade Curtis and Liu looked very dominant in their doubles match

Naomi won 6-3 6-3  proving that she is the legitimate favourite for the title.Unfortunately the ranking points for these tournaments are meagre but she is consistently beating players ranked above her which should mean a place in the top 300 is only going to be a matter of time.

I think we have to backtrack and allude to the fact that since beating Watson is qualifying Vrskova has gone on to beat Boffa and now Curtis to reach the semis of the main draw so maybe that loss is not as bad as first thought!

SF
BOFFA (SUI) / FITZPATRICK (GBR) (2) defeated CURTIS (GBR) / LIU (CHN) (4) Walkover

Final
CHVOJKOVA (CZE) / VANKOVA (CZE) Vs BOFFA (SUI) / FITZPATRICK (GBR) (2)

Vrskova beat the 3rd seed ranked 338 in the 2nd round so Jade's loss maybe not so surprising.

Well done to Anna, but not such good news from Naomi:

SF: BROADY, Naomi (GBR) 417 lost to VONGSOUTHI, Stephanie (FRA) 2 314 3-6 6-7(3)

From Naomi's website:

"The 1st set went with serve but Vongsouth broke Naomi at 3 games each and then again to take the set 6-3. The 2nd set went with serve and developed into a great match with Naomi breaking for the 1st time to go 6-5 up. However,Vongsouth broke straight back to force a tie-break and went through 6-3,7-6 (3)."
