Interesting to see Liverpool get the nod for this tie, but I guess it's one of the few major cities in the UK that doesn't get any top class tennis, so it was probably worth a try.

Isn't there an invitational tournament in Liverpool just before Wimbledon?

L Kubot is now in the semi of an Atp event...if he is improving toward that level then we would be up against it if Andy didnt play.

But considering he has beaten a teenage WC, had Andreev retire against him, and then beat Kristof Vliegen (who can lose to just about anyone), having originally failed to qualify and only got in as a LL, we shouldn't be overly concerned about him.

One fluke run doesn't change my opinion on him that he isn't that good - he may still be better than a lot of our players though.

Fair enough Daniel...but he also beat big evo today to make the final where he will play Nole.
Maybe it is a fluke run but its not good for our dc chances.

So Kubot ran Nole close....he even was serving for the second set !!!

This seems like no fluke.....!

I hope Murray plays...!

There is. The women's draw is often more exciting than the mens.

In the first year we got Nole and Ljubo but since then Spadea and Kendrick have been the biggest draws.

Liam Broady And Bernard Tomic are playing this year.

I was surprised that Kubot got as close to Nole as he did, but in all honestly, Nole had the title won from the moment his family bought the event.

Unless Kubot does something to back his run here, I'll still consider the run a fluke - but if he does suddenly manage to keep this form going, then we're beginning to look in real danger of losing this tie, even if Murray does play, as we'd be struggling to win the other singles matches, and they would be favourites for the doubles.

I agree

Making any ATP final cannot be a 'fluke'. His semi win against Evo Karlovic made me take notice. When he serve for the second set v Nole...well unless Nole was playing left handed...I noted his improvement He obviously has improved greatly. Wish we had a top 100/200 ranked player in an ATP final thats for sure !

but if he does suddenly manage to keep this form going, then we're beginning to look in real danger of losing this tie, even if Murray does play, as we'd be struggling to win the other singles matches, and they would be favourites for the doubles.

Its on a knife edge 3-2 either way !

Andymurray.com are organising a 'group' booking again to the Davis Cup tie up at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and we're hoping again to get some great seats.

1 or 2 brave souls from BT have joined us in the past and escaped unscathed to tell the tale......

So, if anyone is interested in joining us please PM me before Wednesday; there are approx 35 of us already.
We're hoping to have details sorted by the end of this week.

There's no guarantee of Andy being there but we'll be cheering on the GB squad regardless!

Thanks
Daisy

It's not really relevent anymore, but had beaten the Ukraine, then our reward in the WG Play-Off would have been a home tie against Belguim, which is Murray had played, would probably have seen us get back into the WG give that we have the better doubles options.

To clean a few things up:

1. Nick Brown *is* our captain. Just because the (international I think) rules don't allow a foreign person to be signed as an official captain the other dude is there, but here we officially refer to Nick when mentioning the head of the team.

2. Kubot hasn't played a couple of previous DC ties because he is in the conflict with the federation. Highly possible he'll choose Szczecin Challenger which is in the same week and where he made SF last year. They were negotiating with him before the tie against Belgium and he said no, although in the recent times there have been some changes in our federation, but still it's more "no" than "yes" for him. Olejniczak is also out of the team (probably good for us as lately he's dreadful LOL) for being 2 days late for one of the practise sessions of DC Team before some tie (Nick's decision). They said Gawron might play as he was Wimbledon junior finalist.

Thanks for all the info. It sounds like Nick is LTA through and through, sending Olejniczak to the naughty step. Does he have a serial scapeGOAT for Polish DC failures too, perhaps called Bogdanowicz? wink

Anyway, don't let him run your whole Federation, else they may cut back on Futures and Challengers held in Poland, they'll hold half the Polish Challengers each year on Wolin (for those who don't know, a Polish island in the Baltic) or more likely Uznam (ditto, but closer to Germany, so more like Jersey being close to France) and  the Polacy will hardly get any WCs into the biggest home events any more. no

If i remember correct, they've already got rid of ATP Warsaw...so Brown must be having his way already
