Week 10 - Futures F3 (15k) - Tipton, Great Britain

Tournament Key : M-FU-GBR-03A-2009
Dates : 09 Mar to 15 Mar 2009
Venue : Tipton, Great Britain
Surface : Hard

Jonny Marray, Dan Evans, Colin Fleming, Ken Skupski will all be DAs into the MD.

Illingworth, Milton and Cox could make it also depending on SE spots being cleared.

1 spot in the MD has been taken by a JE (Henri Kontinen FIN)

No news of any wildcards as yet but will try and find out today.

There is a plethora of other Brits attempting to qualify.

Wolf is 9th alt on the qualy alt list. He should make it.

To say Wolf has incentive to win his first match is a bit of an understatment!

The Wolf has made it into qualifying here smile - he even has a bye in QR1, so clearly a lot of people registered for qualifying didn't turn up because only the seeds were meant to get byes. He has a slightly kinder draw than ForeverDelayed had in Exmouth, having been drawn to face fellow debutant, 15-year-old Jack Busby in QR2 - 3rd on Court 6 not before 13.00 GMT.

Good luck Joey - and if you want to do some pre-match scouting, your opponent is one of the two players on the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n89EiM6cbIg!

Wolf is in the same section as Bloomers, who seems to have decided to turn up and be the 'ringer' in qualifying here. Very good luck to Fitzy too, who is Q seed no. 11.

All unranked and GBR unless otherwise stated:

QR1: Navid Sigarchi v Joachim Sternbach (FRA)
QR1: Daniel Sidaway v Matus Horecny SVK
QR1: Oliver Golding v Chris Priddle
QR1: Marc Beckles v Alex Hackett
QR1: George Morgan v Michal Schmid (CZE)
QR1: (WC) Joshua Poullet v Orion Modebe
QR1: Thomas Knights v Alan Bevan
QR1: Sundeep Ubhi v Tomas Vyrostko (SVK)
QR1: Mathew James v Adam Morgan (USA)
QR1: Jamie Whiteford v Niall Angus
QR1: Dominic Ross-Hurst v Gaurav Joshi (IND)
QR1: Darcy Crawford v Rogan Egerton

QR2: (q1) Richard Bloomfield WR 310 v Sigarchi or Sternbach
QR2: Joey "Wolf" Brew v Jack Busby
QR2: Sidaway or Horecny v (q2) Jiri Krkoska (CZE)
QR2: (q10) Nick Cavaday WR 1188 v Robert Nkusi
QR2: (q3) Burnham Arlidge WR 859 v Golding or Priddle
QR2: Matthew Leahy v (q14) Tomas Janci (SVK) WR 1655
QR2: Beckles or Hackett v (q4) Ladislav Chramosta (CZE) WR 924
QR2: (q9) Kyle Brassington WR 1123 v Edward Jones
QR2: (q5) Marcus Willis WR 957 v Morgan or Schmid
QR2: (q12) Neil Pauffley WR 1386 v Poullet or Modebe
QR2: (q6) Dan Smethurst WR 1032 v Knights or Bevan
QR2: Ubhi or Vyrostko v (q13) Frederik Sletting-Johnsen (NOR) WR 1490
QR2: James or Morgan v (q7) Radim Zitko (CZE) WR 1062
QR2: (q11) Andrew Fitzpatrick WR 1267 v Whiteford or Angus
QR2: (q8) Maniel Bains WR 1120 v Ross-Hurst or Joshi
QR2: Crawford or Egerton v (q15) Francois-Arthur Vibert (FRA) WR 1900

I'm not sure where the main draw WCs have gone, since Alt-1 Illingworth and Alt-2 Milton will have got DAs unless there are any SEs in the draw, Alt-3 Cox might well have got a DA too (or will have one of the WCs) and the only Brits below him on the list not in qualifying are Flan (too old and uncommitted for a WC, surely) and Ben Pritchard. I wonder if one has gone to someone like Chris Eaton, who was down to play qualifying in Kyoto (and would only just have missed out on a DA there) but obviously couldn't get there due to DC.

Can't tell you how glad I am I didn't draw Bloomers! Can't really complain and I'm confident that if I serve well I can do OK (e.g. at least get on the board) and we'll see how it goes.

Why couldn't I have had a draw like that?

Good luck anyway and hope you can do a good job and do better than I did - and I suppose it's not totally impossible that you can win the match.

Bloomers up next if you do though, which would be an interesting experience...

I was thinking the same Steven, perhaps Josh Goddall or James Ward as well?

Ah, draw envy ... wink

I suppose the nice thing about that draw, for either Joey or his opponent, is that if you've actually had to win a match to get a chance to play Bloomers, getting blown off the court by him isn't anywhere near as embarrassing as if it happened in your first match.

Yes, perhaps. The reason I only mentioned Chris is that Josh was a DA for Kyoto and I think the ATP rules prevent you from playing in any other tournament if you withdraw under those circumstances unless you get officially "released" - you never know, maybe the LTA have helped him apply for this given the circumstances. I don't think Wardy was entered for anything, so he could be getting one.

It's a bit odd that Josh went for Kyoto when he knew he had a good chance of being in the DC team, especially when he often tends to prefer playing a home Future over going for a Challenger even under normal circumstances. Any other week, I'd be saying it was a great choice of course! smile.gif

Anyway, I was speaking to Drew last night and he says they've been promised they'll know the WCs tomorrow, so we won't have to wait until Monday evening to find them out this time.

How are you doing Fitzy....Im in the press centre at Braehead rubbing shoulders with the great and the good....when you going to be playing Davis Cup anyway ????

Its been such a roller-coaster weekend....the guys have busted a gut here and IMO its the lack of the big match experience that counted in the end. Whats you take ?

Hope you have a good week yourself !
