Davis Cup - No Murray - Hypothetical

Ok with murray looking a bit doubtfull, who, if you were team captian who would you pick for the ukraine tie if andy wasn't available? (you can pick any GB player, even if not at the play off)

My team:
Boggo
Bloomers
Eaton
Ross

Boggo to play illy on day 1, Eaton to play Stak
Rich and Ross in the dubs on Sat then Boggo v Stak on day 3 and bloomers vs Illy to wrap it up.

by doing the above i'd expect  2 rubbers off Illy, and Boggo doenst have to play the crunch 5th tie. I am assuming rich can take the pressure.

Then i think really from all the GB players Boggo and Eaton have the best chance of sneaking a win off stak.

i know josh gets harshly exlcuded, but i'd prefer bloomers in there on fast indoor surface.

I'd go with Josh, James W and Chris E with Ross for the doubles. Boggo should be nowhere near the team

Quite agree with Mervatron - no Boggo. He'd have to go in as the no 1 player and would therefore be a lamb to the slaughter yet again. Give him a break and let him have a Davis Cup tie where he doesn't get any criticism. Is that possible or would some people just say he didn't beg for a place when not offered one?

With no Andy and no Jamie Baker, perhaps JL would feel more inclined to take Jamie M as the tie is in Scotland and hope for a doubles win with Josh and Chris for the singles.

Wont happen tho, if our number 2 loses Boggo will still get blamed somehow, probably for not being mentally strong enouch and thereby forcing us to play a worse player.

If Josh was the GB No2 by the DC tie then he could play the first tie v Illy....Boggo would play Stak (if fit)....could be an advantage ?

If Lloyd's got any sense at all (jury's out on this one) he now HAS to pick Goodall as not only having done well in the playoff but also the only player to have reached an ATP doubles final with...Ross Hutchins GB as his partner. Admittedly it was a couple of years ago but surely an old partnership renewed is still better than a I'd-never-met-you-till-this-morning one?

I'd complete the team with Eaton (much as I feel he doesn't really deserve the place on merit/ranking he clearly does know how to bring his A game to the big events)

and Slabba (based entirely on personal bias both for Slabba and against Ward - for very few logical reasons but if a girl can't be irrational every now and then...wink.gif)
