15-0 - lovely fh approach and then a beautiful dropvolley 15-15 - big fh winner from Koning 15-30 - DF... not looking good here 15-40 - DF (1st serve looked in and Boggo wasn't happy) 30-40 - bh from Koning goes long Game Koning - it's Boggo's point but Koning gets to the dropvolley and Boggo cannot do anything
15-0 - unreturnable serve 15-15 - good fh return and K nets the fh 30-15 - Ace 30-30 - DF 30-40 - decent bh return and K bh goes long Deuce - good fh from Koning that stays low and Boggo nets the fh Adv Koning - bh error from Boggo GSM Koning - Ace
With Boggo I struggle to put my finger on exactly why he loses - there was obviously the Backhand factor today but it all just seemed a little tame. Shame, there was a SF place on a plate for Alex..
Disappointing loss from Boggo as Koning was basically an all-serve player - Boggo was the better player once he got into the rallies, but didn't get enough serves back in play.
Koning did serve well for a set and a half, but Boggo had chances in the second set to break other than the game he did, and he didn't take them - and the chance at 6-5 it was a bit of the ball keeping low, but also poor footwork that made his miss the fh.
Not enough first serves at times as well, and he got frustrated with a line-call for the DF at 5-5 - he didn't regain his composure before serving at all.
Still, a QF is a decent result, but given the way the draw had opened up, he could have gone a lot further.
I got the impression Boggo wasn't really enjoying it there, he struggled through his 1st two matches but the number of players who are purely huge serve is getting silly. maybe thats why he now tends to do better on hard cts.
its disappointing not to progress as the draw opened up, but Koning dispatched Brands easily, its just all clicking for him it seems - as he said afterwards it was his 1st challenger semi.
at times his footwork and backhand can let him down, his back hand is just too inconsistent, going form bad errors to stunning winners. Lets hope he can get a kind draw in Bergamo and get another couple of wins tho.
