1) Is this the worst and most inaccurate report of any description about anything ever?
and 2) Does Jonathon Overend know anything at all about tennis?
I suppose I could add a third for luck
3) Was he clamouring for Eaton to play against Austria or has he just decided now to turncoat? The phrase "aftertiming" springs to mind.

"Why he wasn't selected for the last match back in September remains a mystery. Remember he qualified for Wimbledon last summer, won a round in the main draw and acquitted himself well against Dimitry Tursunov in the second round. His serve was a major weapon and said he felt at home on the big stage.
All of which presumably set him up nicely for a return to the same courts and a Davis Cup debut against Austria - only for captain Lloyd to ignore him in favour of Alex Bogdanovic. The result was so predictable as Britain lost 3-2 to confirm their relegation, and Eaton looked on, bemused."
Eaton looked on bemused?? Seriously? What???

Eaton is the media darling, a hope of a new Henman, cf: Bloomers, he won his match amid scandals of betting scams. of course back then there was Henman and some dude with a foreign name who was also good. So really we didn't need a Bloomers.
Nowadays we have a Grumpy scot as the number one, who speaks his mind (most of the time) rather than say what the press want to hear, ok we still have some dude with a foreign name as number 2, but hes a lot worse than the other foreigner so we need a new Brit to pin our hopes one.

That Overend article is complete tripe, I'm amazed he thought he could get away with it. Well done to the Count for putting him right on a couple of things - he wasn't the only one taking issue with it either.

i cant believe someone can get a chusty job as bbc tennis correspondent yet know so little. ok he does concede that eaton hasnt actually really done much since then right up untill today (but that doesnt really seem to matter aparently).
How can a player one week come within points of beating a top 100 player in Stak, yet the week before lose in straights Luca Schena who is ranked outside the top 1100 in the world!!

Sounds like an epic match between Ward and Eaton - shame that when a match goes that long that someone has to lose, but that has probably done enough to secure Eaton, as well as Goodall the way remaining spots in the DC squad.
Eaton does appear to have the big-match ability at the moment, but still not sure that he is the best option, especially considering how poor his form has been this season, and not convinced that he is the right player to choose, but if he does beat Goodall tomorrow then he'll have probably done enough to get the number 2 spot.
At least this play-off has at least given the players experience of best of 5 matches which one of them will have to be involved in, although I'd still say that this play-off is likely to be irrelevent as Murray will be his 2 singles matches and we'll also win the doubles.
World number four Murray is due to represent Great Britain against Ukraine in the Davis Cup in Glasgow next week.
"I will have to rest and see," he said. "If I feel bad I won't play, and if I feel fine I will play."
He added: "Doctor says I need a week, 10 days, to start feeling better again and I'll just see. You never know with these things. Sometimes you can recover more quickly than other times."
If we lost this match coming up there would be a relegation play-off later in the year. Lose that and we would be in euro/africa zone 2. win and we would remain in zone 1.
i.e. in a years time we would be about to play a tie at the same level as next weeks.
This already sounds like Andy's not going to play. Fairly similar to ties in the last few years.
Don't get me wrong, I'd WANT him to play and I'm sure there's a very real reason as to why he pulled out of Dubai but the timing every time he's pulled out has been unlucky at best and suspect at worst.
Depends on how cynical you are as to how you see it. I read the story this afternoon and saw the mention of "doubt for Davis Cup" and thought 'not again'.
Actually, im a Boggo fan but i would have picked Eaton for the Austria tie. I know the Overend article is a bit of a love fest and completely ignores josh, and Eaton's record on the Futures/Challenger circuit is appalling, but...
