Lol - didn't expect to come back to this. Im tired just reading through all these pages - hopefully the photographer will get a few snaps of both players after the match, will make an interesting sight.
I wonder if we'll see Josh v Chris now for the 2nd live rubber spot ... though if Josh wins all three matches, surely Colin will be in with a chance of the 3rd singles place too if he wins on Friday ... though how you judge it when two of the players will be having to come back two days after a 7 hour match I really don't know!

Just looking at the DC records to compare with this, the longest rubber in terms of games played was Stan Smith/Erik Van Dillen (USA) beating Patricio Cornejo/Jaime Fillol (CHI) 9-7 39-37 6-8 1-6 3-6.
However, the longest known DC rubber in terms of time was John McEnroe (USA) d. Mats Wilander (SWE) 9-7 6-2 15-17 3-6 8-6 in the 1982 World Group Quarterfinal which lasted 6 hours 22 minutes - nearly an hour LESS then Eaton v Ward!
Also, their final set lasted two games longer than the DC singles final set record of 38 games.

JL said it was the longest macth in history by 20 mins but i'm sure stevne has already told you that!
Steven you're letting the side down, you havent told us that. is it true?
Well, it probably was longer than any official match in history, but this is effectively an unofficial match, so who knows what the record is for that.

That DC match between McEnroe and Wilander was the longest official match in the Open era for a long time until Santoro and Clément played out a 6:33 match at RG in 2004, Santoro winning 16-14 in the 5th.

Wow. According to the LTA it was 'only' 6 hours 40 minutes but I don't think that's right.
Chris Eaton defeated James Ward 6-3 6-2 6-7(3) 2-6 21-19
Wow what a match! Chris Eaton edged past James Ward in an epic five-set marathon that lasted around 6 hours 40 minutes.
Eaton won the first two sets with relative ease and looked to be cruising to a straight forward victory.
However, Ward had other ideas and having won the third set in a tie-break, he took control of the match and forced a decider.
In a topsy-turvy final set, both players had multiple chances to break serve but it was not until the 40th game of the set before Ward decisively dropped his serve Eaton winning with his eight match point.
