A hugely impressive performance from Bloomers to push Bolelli so close, but I guess the way the end of each set went just shows why Bolelli is ranked in the top 50 and Richard isn't, though why he's outside the top 300 and not in the top 150 has been a mystery to me whenever I've seen him play.
On this form. he certainly could have beaten one or two of the players he could have been drawn against in R1, I think.

A shame for Rich there  but nothing to be ashamed of on the face of it. An impressive performance to push Bolelli so close. It's just not the result any of us wanted but that is part of parcel of tennis.
12 points and 4900 Euros (a bit more than you get for winning a 35K+H Challenger, even if the points aren't so good) is not a bad consolation prize for a player at Richard's level of course, especially when it comes with a big confidence boost as well.

Cant believe this is the same guy I saw getting whipped by Evans in Glasgow....taking WR38 to two TBs....well done Rich. He surely deserves a dc playoff spot.
Fleming not Evans actually! Shouldnt put too much on those early results - In Glasgow he played with a shoulder injury and lttle or no practice then Sheffield had bad cold/flu - It would have looked better if he hadnt played, although he and Jonny did win the doubles.
Shame for Rich but still a decent display. Agree with Steven that Rich should be ranked a lot higher, in the top 200 for sure. Let's hope this is a big boost for him.
Great effort from Bloomers to push Bolelli to two tie-breaks and not face a break point throughout the match, but probably Bolelli's clash told in the tiebreaks which got him the win.
Hopefully Bloomers can build on this wherever he's playing next, and if he's pushing top 50 players then he definately should be scoring points in futures/challengers.
The BBC did eventually cover Bloomers at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7895341.stm though only after he'd lost, naturally.
On the plus side, they've linked to MJD's site and given him a nice (i.e. wrong) career high - under the pic it says "Richard Bloomfield reached a career-best ranking of 137 in March 2007" - right month, but it was 176. LOL

My, my! Isn't George a jammy Bastl? He gets into the MD as a lucky loser after falling to Bloomers in the FQR & then proceeds to "do a Gicquel" & reach the second round by beating none other than Gicquel himself fairly comfortably (4 & 3)!
