Boys & Girls: Rajshahi International Junior Championships, Bangladesh - Grade 3 (Week 6)

This is the second of the three tournaments in Bangladesh for the British quintet, with the higher grade attracting slightly stronger fields than last week

Sen LI (CHN) defeated Adam THORNTON-BROWN (GBR) 6-2 7-5
(13) Mathew THOMSON (GBR) Bye

(13) Mathew THOMSON (GBR) d. (3) Vaidik MUNSHAW (IND) 6-3 7-6(5)
(2) David THOMSON (GBR) d. (16) Chuhan WANG (CHN) 7-6(3) 6-4

Dave Thomson takes the singles title here, beating Matt (his twin) in the semi, he also teamed up with Matt to take the doubles title & will now go to a new high ranking of around 81 but will also become new British number 1!!
Well Done Dave!!!biggrin

Congratulations to both twins on an excellent week. Dave is the second Brit to win both titles this week, and if Laura S wins today in Qatar that will make 3. I wonder when was the last time that happened?

One bizarre aspect to the situation. The ITF have been reporting the singles results all week with Mark Thompson instead of Mathew Thomson - repeated on other Junior websites (understandably) and also the LTA in their weekly round-up (very poor). If anyone clicked on Mark Thompson in the ITF Singles results page to see who our 'new' player was, they were taken to a 38 year-old 'junior' LOL

The LTA confirm it was a 24-22 tie-break!

"Having progressed to the final without dropping a set, Thomson was crowned singles champion after defeating Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash 7-5 6-7(22) 6-1.

Thomson failed to capitalise on 13 match points in an epic second set tie-break but bounced back strongly to win a comfortable third set."

Doesn't beat my record of 28-26 but still...

Are we sure Thomson isn't really a GEM? smile.gif

Seriously though, great that managed to pull himself together after losing such an epic t/b.
