Rotterdam R1 - Andy v Ljubicic

The match is at 6.30pm UK time on Tuesday, according to am.com. Head to head 2-1 in Andy's favour, but Ivan won the last one, the Final of Doha 2007.

Andy should win, I would have thought. Ivan is not the player he was then.

In an interview on what I assume was Dutch TV, Andy says the court is much quicker than last year. That should suit Ljubo, darn it.

Mostly in Dutch, of course, but quite a bit in English including a guide for non-Brits on how to pronounce Andy's name" laughing.gif

From the LTA at http://www.lta.org.uk/News/All-news-items/2009-02-09/Murray-and-Auckland-lose-doubles-opener/

"Seeded No.2, Murray will be back in action in the singles draw when he takes to the court against Russian Dmitry Tursunov."

Did I miss something? confuse

No, they did! Dima played today and beat Clement, so there is no way there could have been a switch which ended up with Andy playing him. rofl.gif

Obviously looking a draw sheet and re-typing a name is too difficult for the LTA, so they just choose the first name they can think of, and I guess Tursunov was on court at the time.

There is an English football commentator who pronounes the surname Murray as if it were Myrrh followed by é and Currie the same but with a c, very strange.

From the BBC website

"A good run will earn Murray significant ranking points as he has few to protect following his loss in the first round to Dutchman Robin Haase last year".

Murray defends 400 points this week!!

Well you can't expect the BBC to realise the Marseille points come off this week, can you?

Now, next week when he plays Marseille he has no points to defend. . . But of course Marseille is only 250 points this year.

Sometimes I despair with the BBC !!

In a way, it is even worse than has been said.

1)  As has been said, last year's Rotterdam points come off after next week, it's Marseille this week and Andy is defending 400 points.

2)  You don't get any points for a first round non Grand Slams / Masters Series loss, so even if Rotterdam last year was relevant, "few to protect" would be errr none.

3)  Even if you did pick up a few points for first round losses, actually at present Andy isn't even counting 110 from Queens' QF last year, so it would still be miles off being relevant.

Apart from that, good understanding of the points system  eyepopping.gif  Personally, I think it's best not to comment on things you haven't a clue about, particularly when a repesentative of a national broadcasting company on their website !

Actually, whatever Andy does this week will count for his ranking as Rotterdam is a 500 event, and 4 of them have to count towards his ranking (one after the US Open).

So if Andy loses in round 1, then he will have to carry zero points until he wins a match at four other 500 events.

And we all thought that the new ranking system was changed to make it easier for the casual fans to understand what is going on with the rankings!!!

True, though of course there is still no information available on how the transition from no distinction between non-mandatory events to having to count four 500 tournaments is going to be phased in over the course of this year! For example, I very much doubt that those who go out in R1 here are going to have to start carrying a zero-pointer immediately.

Andy won the toss and served. Surely a first?

Andy to serve at 0-0

Smallest live stream ever and the sound is really low
15-0 BOOM big ace down the T to start
15-15 regulation bh into net from M like a kid who is learning topspin
30-15 return goes wide
30-30 fh goes long from M under no pressure
40-30 long passive rally and L finally goes wide with fh
Game Murray fh return out of picture on the stretch

Murray leads 1-0*
