Week 6 - ATP 250 Series - San Jose, USA

The Hutch is back with Stephen Huss; they are the 4th seeds and have drawn Ernests Gulblis & Igor Kunitsyn in the first round. They look to be in a good quarter of the draw but are in the same half of the Bryan brothers.

At last Hutch gets another ATP-level win under his belt: comfortable one for him & "Hussy" by 3 & 3. smile.gif Frank Moser & Florent Serra or the Yankee WCs, Ginepri & Rettenmaier, in the QF, then almost certainly the Bryans, who disposed of the Thai twins by 0 & 3 overnight, if they make it to the SF.

*  No seeded pairs left in the other half of the draw! disbelief

Will this help Ross usurp Jamie as British No 1?

Well Hutch is defending 80 points this week but Jamie is defending 350. It's getting closer.

Start of week rankings...

JM - 2915 with 350pts dropping off on the 16/2

Gained this week = 0 (Lost in R16)

New Total at 16/2 = 2565* (-350)

(*Presuming his 80 pts is replaced with 0 with nothing from another event being added on as one of his 18th best events)

RH - 2364 with 80pts dropping off on the 16/2

Gained this week so far = 90 (Won R16 match)

Current Total for 16/2 = 2374 (+10)

180/300/500 are on offer for QF, SF and F. If Ross were to reach the final he would overtake Jamie as GB No 1*

-----------------------------------------------------

After this week RH defends 2x80pts up unitl 2nd March. JM only defends 80 pts.

So all is still up for grabs over the 2 weeks prior to the DC.

(Im no expert on dubs rankings so please feel free to correct me)

According to my draw sheet, Ross will pick up only 45 points for reaching the QF, while 90/150/250 are on offer to the losing semi-finalists, the losing finalists & the eventual title-winners! confuse

Ross certainly deserves to take the top British doubles slot. He's come such a long way over the last 12 months while Jamie to be honest has done very little. Hope Ross gets the DC slot. He ought to do.

Good win - Non doubles players can always be a real banana skin. Such a shame they are in same half as Bryans

In other half both seeds have already gone

Can someone please tell me what is up with the doubles rankings? It was meant to have changed from 14 to 18 counting tournaments at the start of the year but it didn't and now it seems there are 15 counting tournaments.

And Stircrazy is right, the points Drew wrote are for a 500 tournament while this is only a 250 one.

There's certainly something odd going on with the rankings, because Jamie has two zero-pointers from NON-mandatory event and Ross has three, while they both have Challengers that don't count any more.

I agree with Drew's figures apart from the San Jose being a 250 not a 500 as SC pointed out. Barring spectacular runs by either player over the next six weeks, it's more than likely that the 'handover' date will be just after IW (i.e. just after DC), where Jamie has 450 points to defend.

All this talk of ranking points is giving me a headache.wink So, I shall content myself by adding my congratulations to H&H and pray.gif that Bops & Nieminen can do for the Bryans.
