Oh Katie. While she seems to have dramatically improved her game this is the second time she has choked away a match against a quality opponent this year.
Katie's had a great 2009 so far. Why does everyone assume it was a bad performance by a GB player! The alternative would be that Katie started playing at the new level she's reached this year, after all her hard work and grind in 2008. Elena wasn't ready for it, until she managed to raise her own game and although Katie was still playing well, Elena was playing at her old top 50 level to close it out.
Katie's just lost to a very good solid top 50 player working her way back from injury last year. Her win-loss this year is 11-3. So I look forward to Katie continuing this success over the year.
The reason is because she was in such a good position to reach the final.
Had you said at the start of the week she would lose, in 3 sets,, in the SF we would be happy but after having been in control of the match it is a touch dissapointing.
