Girls: Oman Open - Grade 5

Laura Slater has been taking advantage of a weak field here. Laura is currently ranked around 250, the top seed (a local girl) inside 100, and everyone else outside 500. The two have combined in the doubles, and unsurprisingly have hardly lost a game.

No official results, but the report from the Oman Observer below makes it clear that Laura won the doubles, and was beaten by her partner (and top seed) in the singles final.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUSCAT Omans Fatma al Nabhani and Romanias Lucian Georghe emerged champions as the curtains came down on the Oman ITF Junior Open Tennis Tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex yesterday. Fatma, living upto her reputation as the rising star of the region and the expectations of her local fans, in fact achieved a double by winning the girls singles title in a grand finale to the tournament. A day after winning the doubles crown in the company of Britains Laura Slater, the Omani ace took on her own partner in yesterdays singles final which was witnessed by chief guest Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of Majlis Addawla, and several dignitaries including Oman Olympic Committee Vice-Chairman Habib Abdulnabi Macki and Oman Tennis Association chief Majeed al Asfoor.

Though Fatma started off well, she had to overcome a late fightback by her British opponent before emerging a 6-4, 7-5 winner. It looked easy but it was a very tough match. Laura is a very good player and she gave me a tough time. I was almost exhausted but thank god I won the match, said an excited Fatma. Her rival praised Fatmas game and said the Omani deserved to win the match. Fatma played smart tennis. She deserved to win the title, said Laura.
