RE: Week 5 - Futures F5 ($15K+H) - Germany

Strange to see Ward get a w/o into the quarter finals, but I'll definately take that - maybe the fact his opponent was using a PR, suggesting he'd just come back from injury and hurt himself again today, or just couldn't play back-to-back days (or got injured in doubles).

Surprised to se Jonny beat Josh, but that's a very good win for him, and he does have a good chance to get at least one more win.

Isn't happening for Josh this season though, and that's another match that he's lost when he would reasonably have been expected to win.

i know its a very old argument, but i think josh ranking is well over top, he inst a soild challanger player yet, yes he had semi and final appearance in challangers last year, but they were in India and Mexico with more like soild futures players!

If tomorrow's OoP, as published on the ATP site, is anything to go by, Jonny won today, as he's down to play the 6th seed, Mikhail Ledovskikh, in the QFs, second match on the centre court tomorrow (first kicks off at 12 noon GMT)! nod.gif  No sign of any scores, though... confuse

Edit: James Ward plays the 4th seed, Julian Reister, in the match after Jonny's, no earlier than 15.30 GMT.

Results finally posted:  Jonny won 5-7 6-3 6-4! smile  He also won his doubles QF 4 & 4, so:

Singles QF:

Jonny Marray WR 455 vs (6) Mikhail Ledovskikh WR 352 (RUS)

*  not that big a gap...

(5) James Ward WR 282 vs (4) Julian Reister WR 280 (AUT)

*  an even smaller gap...

Doubles SF:

Ralph Grambow & Julian Reister WR 1745 vs (4) Jonny Marray & Rasmus Norby (DEN) WR 1018

Could be a good day for Jonny tomorrow! pray.gif

From the R1 results it looks like Jonny was trying to remind JL that he was wrong to ignore the over 25s in the GB top 10 ... smile.gif

Good news & bad from Nussloch:  Jonny saw off the 6th seed 7-6(3) 7-6(4), but the 5th seed (James) succumbed to the 4th, Reister, 2 & 3. biggrin cry

Singles SF:

Jonny Marray WR 455 vs Ruben Bemelmans (BEL) WR 263... pray.gif

More like tomorrow (Saturday) & not helped by the schedulers:  for some reason best known to them, he will play his singles SF after the Reister/Marchenko encounter (noon GMT KO) & must then be allowed his "suitable rest" before teaming up with Rasmus Norby to take on the unseeded Reister & Grambow in the second doubles SF! confuse  I guess Reister's singles seeding (4th) must trump Jonny's doubles seeding (also 4th)! hmm

Edited in:  If Jonny & Rasmus come through their doubles encounter tomorrow, they will face the unseeded Romanians, Marius Copil & Petru-Alexandru Luncanu, in the final on Sunday. pray.gif

Reister is the home player too, so that may be a factor.

Whatever happens though, it's been an excellent week for Jonny and naughty me can't help enjoying the way he's making JL look a bit of an Nußloch (nuthole LOL) by staying alive while the Brits in the playoff squad fall by the wayside. Obviously I'd much prefer them to be doing well too of course.

Definitely Jonny's day today:  he beat Bemelmans (3) in the SF 4-6 6-4 6-2 & faces Reister (4) in the final tomorrow. biggrin

He & Rasmus then saw off Grambow & Reister 4 & 4 to set up a final encounter with the Romanians, also tomorrow! smile

Excellent results from Jonny this week, plenty of higher-ranked scalps taken along the way. One more tomorrow. please.gif A win in the doubles wouldn't go amiss either.wink

Great stuff from Jonny, good to see him back winning like this! I would say it'd be nice to see him in Nottingham this year again BUT IT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE.

The Open, that is, not the city... it still exists. Somehow.

*WITTY REMARK*
