Good to see them qualifying including a couple of encouraging wins for Morgan

Just hope it is all worth it by making use of decent draws.

Well done to them for qualifying, and hopefully they can take advantage of their relatively decent draws and get some points here, and it definately looks like Morgan is over his injury problems and he is back to playing at a level he was before his injury.

 Two good wins, clap.gif especially Morgan's. w00t.gif

Both guys are on again tomorrow, Alex v the 6th seed from Italy, Arnaboldi, & Morgan v the German, Stebe, who saw off the Spanish 2nd seed, Checa-Calvo.

Alex is also playing his doubles match after receiving passage into the QFs when the aforementioned Checa-Calvo & partner withdrew.wink

That's only The Wardinator's 3rd point since that run to a final last year, and one of those was the week after!

R2: (Q) Morgan Phillips WR 1493 v (WC) Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (GER) WR 785

R1
MORERA-BALCELLS (ESP) / WARD (GBR) defeated CHECA-CALVO (ESP) / OLASO (ESP) (3) Walkover

QF
MORERA-BALCELLS (ESP) / WARD (GBR) Vs CUENCA-NAVARRO (ESP) / SANCHEZ-DE LUNA (ESP)

EDIT: Helki beat me to it with a naughty edit!

Fantastic to see Ward getting another point and Morgan Following up last week QF.

Stebe seems like a good prospect - reached semi finals at Orange Bowl and is a grand slam winner (US open doubles)

Good to see Ward getting himself back in the points, but Morgan's win looks very impressive and is seemingly confirming that he does look to be back to somewhere near his best and he doesn't look to have rushed his comeback.

Stebe is a decent prospect, but Morgan should have a decent chance of beating him as long as he keeps playing at this level, and hopefully within the next few months he can get back to the verge of the top 500 where he was before it all started to go wrong a couple of years ago

Given that they were both qualifiers playing more highly-ranked opponents, especially in Alex's case, no, but have just realised that the way I expressed Morgan's result (original post now edited) actually made it look as though he might in fact have won, hence this reply... redface.gif
