RE: dokic is back!!!!!!!

Brilliant, Dokic wins !!

That ankle injury in some ways I think helped her at the end.  Such things can stop you worrying about the match and just go for it.  Hopefully, it will be OK.

Safina in the quarters might be one step too far, but then again Safina is a fairly combustable character.  How will she take to 15,000 in the RLA  ?

The story continues.....

Great win there! Only saw the final set but she seems to be palying well didnt think she was as powerful a player as she is! Hope her ankle is ok tho..looked a nasty turn..and with the director having shown it 4 times all from diff angles we all got a good glimpse of it, must hav been hurting bad as the final game she completely went for broke and it paid off! All the best to her

Watched both her last two matches...fab to watch.

Utter determination. You cannot fail to wish her the best.

That ankle-twist shot the Aussie TV producer kept showing...yikes !!!!

All the best for Miss Safin !

There's nothing quite like the Aussie crowd getting behind an Aussie player in a night session, and it's great to see Dokic back as well, so it ends up being great drama to watch.

Safina may be a step to far for her tomorrow, but if Dokic tees off and everything works for her then she may have a chance, but Safina's defence will probably be too good for her.

(On the issues of night matches, aren't they always a lot more exciting to watch than day matches - just think of Wimbledon last year - the matches with the best atmosphere where Murray/Gasquet and Nadal/Federer, both of which went late into the night - and it's why I prefer the US Open/Aussie Open to it because of the late night drama and the great crowds, while the French crowds are just as good/bad (depending on how you see them) but without the night matches)

Great effort from Dokic....taking a set off Safina is way ahead of where she thought she would be. Her targt for the AO....to win one match.

Fantastic to see Dokic back - Just hope it is the start of a longer term comeback.

Slightly OT but the result today means a new women's number 1. And to show how competetitive it is (At least in the Absense of Henin) it could go multiple ways - taken from tennisforum

If Elena wins AO, Elena
If Elena loses in final to Vera, Elena
If Serena wins AO, Serena
If Serena loses in final to Vera, Serena
If Dinara wins AO, Dinara
If Dinara loses in final to Carla or Svetlana, Dinara
If the final is Vera vs. Carla or Svetlana, Dinara

Nice watching Dokic win, good game. Does anyone else think that Kleybanova seems to have a physique more suited to a Griggs shop assistant rather than a tennis player.

On the Men's side, Fedex looked awesome this morning - gave Del Pot a couple of Bagels whilst showboating at the same time. Agressive, hitting winners freely, yet hardly any unforced errors. I don't think anyone, with the possible exception of Rafa, will have been pleased to see the Fed back on form like that.
