RE: Week 3 - Futures F2 (15k) - Sheffield, GBR

What on earth has happened to Sean Thornley? Ever since the summer his results have been shocking compared to what he has been doing before. There must be some kind of recurring injury explanation?

Shocker draw for Fitzy again. Evans could definately make the QFs and you'd think Eaton or Skupski could upset Eysseric? Hope Flembo can beat Bloomers again as I want his singles ranking to stay in touch with his doubles one. Further down the draw Marray v Qureshi in R2 could be a bit of a throwback to a previous era with two serve and volleyers.

Unfortunately Marray lost to AuHQ in Belo Horizonte last year (I remember because Imran on the GR board went on and on and on about it) - still, good chance for revenge on home soil. smile.gif

Got to feel for Fitzy - has now drawn seeds in last 4 events. Also in the doubles he (With Oliver Evans) has drawn Fleming/Skupsk!i

At least it shows he is moving in the right direction as he is qualifying.

Dont worry about the draws...your turn will come around Im sure. Bloomers is ripe for the taking. He was not impressive last week against Flemming. I saw Jean Claude beat him easily on the clay in Edinburgh last year and his game plan on that surface was to get the ball back at his feet every time. More often than not Bloomers netted in frustration. That was then. Totally different indoors I agree. Just get under his skin...that always helps LOL !

Yeah we all know how big Bloomers serves; but just get some returns back and his volleying isn't that great.

From Eamonn on AM.com:

Illingworth beat Marray 6-4 in the 3rd today. Everything revolved on a Marray drop shot at break point to go 5-3. I was 99.9% certain it bounced twice and Jonny remonstrated "Youre not going to claim that" and it continued in a heated fashion for a few minutes at the end.

Evo won 6-4 in the decider with an impressive drive volley to finish - he was shouting a lot about not getting any calls. Krotiouk was a battler who looked a bit dishevelled and then I noticed he had a beer gut. Amazing !

Left at 1pm with easy win for Bloomers but losses for Skupski and Bradshaw.

First Futures for me having been to a couple of Challengers and quite a come down. Amazing what the players have to accept with just 3 umpires - some shots nowhere near the lines and called in.

Shame for Fitzy. tough drasw seem to be for him at the moment.
but good for bloomers to get a win under his belt.

sounds like a bit of a todo in the Marray match. big on call crucial points is tough when there are few judges.

Looking at the Bloomers-Fitzy result again, 3 & 2 is a pretty good effort for a player outside the top 1000 taking on someone in the top 300. I reckon Fitzy's going to do quite a bit better than last year in the tournaments wheren he manages to avoid a seed in R1.

If much known about Marek Semjan, Evo's next likely opponent in the 2nd round?

Looking at Semjan's record for the previous year, he appears to be quite beatable, though not a walk over. He appears to have got his ranking by playing quite a few events, but doesn't always do well against players of similar ranking to himself.

Another encouraging win for Evo then.

Do we have anyone planning to go to Sheffield from here?
